I have the key part numbers from Toyota. I've checked out the Lexus key thread and it's definitely an option.

You should've gotten 2 key fobs with a new taco. My truck came from a sister dealership which was the same name dealer just another lot on the other side of buffalo and it took them a few days to get me the extra key since they shipped the truck out last minute. I also got basically kind of like a valet key with it which helps to open the tailgate. They definitely shouldn't be charging you considering two keyless fobs is included in the price already.

It was a used truck, but still...i feel it should have two keys when sold from a dealer. If i was buying from craigslist, I wouldn't even worry about it.

Yeah you shouldn't just let em make you pay that much for something that that should be included it's common sense for a dealership vehicle to come with two keys even if they have to make you an extra which when your paying so much for a truck.

Rather than buying a Service Agreement that just does oil changes and tire changes he would be better off buying a Platinum Extended Warranty.

The VSA is the Toyota extended warranty.

Okay, that makes a difference and gets into kinda nuanced territory.

That you signed and put down money makes it an executed contract. What makes it a little bit fuzzy is if you then fulfilled your obligations under the contract (paying the remaining amount or the equivalent action of signing loan documents) after learning of the lack of CPO.

In my "knowing enough to be dangerous" experience with contract law you could make a case... but they could also easily claim that you knowingly went through with the rest of the contract while knowing it wasn't CPO instead of cancelling the contract and demanding your deposit back.

Still it's kind of a moot point in terms of legal recourse since it'd likely cost you more to do anything about it than you'd hope to recover.

The VSA is a Vehicle Service Agreement which is just an extension of the 2 year free service, oil change and tire rotation.

    I agree on all points.

So then do I walk away or call Toyota and/or post reviews of my experience?

So did you learn your lesson about dealing with a dealership on the other side of the country?

Yep. I'm going to take my happy ass across the country, close the deal and drive the fucker home myself. lol

All things being equal, I still saved ~$6,000 over buying here in Seattle, even though it's been a major headache.

I think calling Toyota would be a waste of time.

Definitely leverage social media. Decide what you want as an end result. Start by posting on Facebook asking for what you want. i.e. give them a chance to grease the squeaky wheel. When/if they don't do anything, post your experience far and wide. Facebook, Yelp, Google, whatever. Stick to facts and don't sound like a whiny toddler like so many bad reviews seem like.

I do think they poorly handled the lack of CPO and while I don't think they had a legal duty to disclose the missing key, they should know damn well most buyers are assuming it would come with two keys.

I'm willing to bet that if you ran the numbers for going back and forth, driving it home, and all the assorted run around, it's not near 6k difference. You could have negotiated a similar price with someone much closer to home and been a whole hell of a lot easier to deal with. Plus the follow up support would have been less of a hassle.

It's a misleading name, easily confused with a prepaid maintenance plan.

Many guys do just that, get a good deal across the Country, buy a plane ticket and drive it back home and still end up saving money.

If it was only that easy. Used, blue Limiteds make up less than 1% of the 2016-2017 Toyota Tacoma market.

Here is a 500 mile search on Cargurus (deepest pool of listings i've found on any site). There is 1 Limited available and it's $5,000 more than my "to the door" cost I paid. Plus, it will require another $4,000 in taxes. So the closest example is actually $9,000 more than it cost me to get a driveable limited.

Yep; I'd always do that simply to avoid the risk of getting a smoker's vehicle. It takes weeks to get that crap out and even then its never all the way gone.
