Hello all, im having some trouble finding info about different finishes on wood-

I was recently given a large wood slab that i am making into a coffee table. The slab has a crack running down the entire peice so i added in some bow tie splines and i was planning on using a epoxy to fill the rest of the crack and sand it flush, then i plan on using boiled linseed oil for the first coat of finish, then a oil+spirits+satin poly blend for the next 3 or 4 coats. My question is- Can i use an oil blend over the epoxy? Im not sure if the BLO will just sit on top of the epoxy and never cure. I was thinking of shellac-ing over the epoxy and then blo? Not sure... any help would be appreciated

Just tape off the epoxy an finish. The splines if tight enough are enough for strength.

I did the same thing on our kitchen table when I made it. I filled the voids with Devcon two ton epoxy and then sanded it smooth and used Minwax polyurethane as my top coat. I don't know if the oil blend will work with the epoxy but the poly worked fine and has been holding up for years.

I have used epiphanes marine varnish over top of west system epoxy on boats for years. As far as a BLO, linseed oil, tung oil finish over the epoxy? I don't know on that. You may want to run some tests on some scraps...
