The driver side where the spring mounts near the gas tank is rusted out, Toyota would not honor the recall, I bought it off a jerk, who should have used the recall.

I was too dumb to know about it until after I bought it

MY QUESTION IS I HAVE A GUY TO DO THE WORK, HIS LABOR PRICE IS CHEAP, HIS WORK IS GREAT "DO I BUY JUST THAT SECTION OR ALL THE WAY BACK, AND IF I GO ALL THE WAY BACK SHOULD I DO THE OTHER SIDE
He said to find out bring parts, and he will give me an honest price, I trust him

The truck is a 1996 Toyota Tacoma 2 wheel drive with 129k on it
    Thanks for reading
    Gary

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Good luck and welcome to TW! Someone is doing a beautiful job on a frame here at TW; hopefully he’ll chime in! Edit: and yes, I think do both or as much as possible since you’re in there. Safe t Caps (or something like that) is the name of the company that makes the frame pieces

Take the time to put it up on a lift and give it a good checking. Hit it with a hammer and listen carefully, I'm sure there will be other spots that need shoring up

It does seem like the green area is the bad area is that normal, I have to look again IMG_2052.jpg IMG_2046.jpg and will the mech need to remove the gas tank to I assume weld the parts together, or are they bolted together?

Judging by the pix I would hammer test every square inch of that frame before deciding to try to save it.

OK, I checked the frame my driver side is bad, but I will also replace the TAC.157R on the side, I called the place got a nice girl on the phone now I need more help before I get the parts I asked her and she made it sound like it does not come with short plates for welding that section in does it, or is that extra she does not know about?
    IMG_2054.jpg
Now the hard part I took pics of what is good do I need to buy the part for my driver side that goes behind it TAC.156U from the blue tape edge it is rock

Hard, maybe even more towards the tape, but 100% sure from that edge can someone tell me from this info if I need it or not my Mech is very hard to

Speak to over the phone his English is bad, and my Portuguese is not very good, but I do know at least 300 words, he's Spanish, but works for a Big body

shop who is Portuguese and he understands Portuguese

So he said bring parts I fix

I will ask him to replace my rear bumper too and ask him if he can do shocks for it I will ask if he can cut the rust out of the bed near the bad part of the frame too and patch it

I would sell it, but this damn COVID has me scared running around meeting strangers now who may just kill me, I have so much wrong or I bring it home

and kill my wife who is very frail I will be 79 in a few days

If you want to see me, here is a video I made to remove the bamboo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyVBkG6mWns

Very hard to judge from pic if the green section is all you will need. Also unclear by your wording if both sides need to be capped. When you buy 2 or more sections that touch ends the splice plate(s) are included.
That company is in RI. and have been repairing frames since before they started making the DIY kits.
Is it possible to drop your truck at their RI. shop and have them do it?
Considering the language barrier and good reputation of Auto rust repair co. It may save you in the long run.

Nay, once I'm near him we can understand much better than on the phone, it's like all languages, crap I didn't even speak English when I started

school, that part never scared me, I find most Spanish and Portuguese as good craftsman who take pride in their work

And it's 2.5 hours away, honestly, my frame is so bad I doubt I could not make it, plus I don't have a way to get back short on family and friends

My guy is good, he's done work for me two times before

And I saw what he did for other people well since it is hard to know for sure I will order the green one, then measured it, and see if it butts up to the good

metal, if not, I order the next part back and

My only reason to have the other side done is it will go next since that section seems to go, it's solid now, but

looks like it may go bad in a year or two, DO YOU AGREE, OR I'M I WASTING MY TIME??

When you're my age, you wonder who is going to outlive who me, or my truck LOL

Sounds like a good plan
After I welded safe t caps on I sprayed in side the box frame with Coroseal and brushed it on the rust outside.
    Top coated with black Rust-Oleum.
I keep my frame soaked in Fluid Film inside and out now.

Trying to quote a job like this is so very hard by just pictures you really need to be up close and personal .

My Tacoma grew up in Central Texas never saw any winter chemicals two winters was all it took in Pa .

Best of Luck Only you can know if it is worth it or not.

Always double or triple the amount of rust you see on a vehicle.

OK, I got the midsection only parts with the metal weld-on plates

NOW, WHERE CAN I BUY CHEAP Shock Strut and Coil Spring Loaded Kit - Front and Rear?

MY TRUCK IS 2 WHEEL DRIVE............ I FOUND A GOOD PRICE, BUT IT WAS FOR A 4 WHEEL DRIVE?

CARLOS SAID IT WOULD BE EASY TO INSTALL FOR HIM

He's removing the bed to do it, plus I do have a small hole under the bed cover I told him to take pictures of his work while he's doing it and I will post it here if anyone wants to use his service in CT his English is so- so

    His contact is 203 814 6409

He is always looking for more work his price-fixing my classic 1987 Honda accord was $800, VS a body shop $4,500

I don't know for sure his price yet but will post it

I added a stronger horn relay off my horn relay for a stronger horn

I need a good price for shocks with the coil in front THE whole kit it seems I can only buy for a 4 WHEEL DRIVE, NO ONE HAS FOR A 2 WHEEL DRIVE OR ARE THEY CONFUSED and I can use the same ones that a 4 WHEEL DRIVE DOES?
