Personally I don't care much about the trail edition. I prefer getting custom lift that fits my new wheels and tires all in 1 package.
In terms of price, for just a little more you get all the nice things in the OR Premium. I'll trade the lift for those.

Soooo.... a rooftop tent would solve my dilemma, potentially, I guess.
At this point it's like, what do I hate more, the access cab or a RTT? If that's the case I just might have to suck it up and get the RTT + DCSB, just like 90% overlanding youtubers out there.

    Access cab:
Really don't like the rear seats and it doesn't come in the best color - army green!
Other than that, I get the locker / MTS / crawl and 6ft bed. No pano cams tho.

    Rooftop tent:
Never really imagined getting myself into a RTT. Been browsing overlanding setups for over a year now and every time I see a RTT setup I just hit close tab lmao.
However, if short bed is the way to go I guess there's not much choice left now is there.

Why can't toyota just give us off road premium DCLB army green???

Well I mean, that's a given, no? Who drives stock tires going proper off road.
But even with some falken tires these electronic gizmos definitely have a place too.

Has anyone tried adding aftermarket lockers to DCLB sport trims? How does it work and what's the price range for parts + installation?

When my dad bought his 3rd gen, he test drove the double and access cab back to back, said the access cab drove better, idk if thats true or not but maybe do a back to back and see for yourself. I like having a 6ft bed on my access without having the length of a double with a 6ft. My brother has a double cab and I gotta say having that much more indoor storage in the back seats is pretty nice.

I removed my access cab rear seats and headrest, cleared out some good space, cant see for s$!+ out the back window when the tents on ha

    Oh... My... God...
Access cab + RTT madness. On paper it's everything that irks me, but the 2nd pic looks pretty sweet ngl.

I'll have to actually test drive one of these in person.

If you are wanting a Long Bed and a Locker then why not just go with an Off Road Double Cab Long Bed (Model # 7568)?

I figured that for the times that the bed runs out of space, I can just put the extra stuff up on the rack and strap it down.

How often, really, will you have people in the rear seat? How far will the drive be?

Get a DCSB Toyota builds more of those they are easier to find. Most dealerships have one in stock, whether it be an Off Road or a Sport. You might even find a TRD Pro if you want to pay those prices. The Trail Edition for 22 is probably the best DCSB for you.

Well, I favor the SB because mines a daily driver & parking lots around here are mostly "straight in" and tight as hell. Other than that, I'd prefer the extra foot.
Anyway, I haven't tried to haul anything yet that the 5 foot bed couldn't handle. If that ever happens, I'll use a trailer.

Access cabs are fine as long you don't expect to carry a lot of people with you. Same for the trims depending how serious you are about off roading. I've had extended cabs before they were called access cabs...never had a complaint that i needed more cab space, if so we've always had a 4 door car, or suv if needed. You can even add a tonneau cover for the bed if storage is needed. I too recommend the 6' bed, just comes in too handy when carrying larger items.
