So I haven’t been on in a while but I figured I’d see if I could get some advice. I am still a proud owner of my 2006 Tacoma quad cab long bed. The other day I went to fill up my tank at QT. I had an older bottle of Royal Purple maxclean that I put in before filling up. I think maybe the tag on top may have been open but I didn’t think much of it and poured it in. My tank was pretty much emptied as I filled with 17gallons of gas. I used 89. About a mile from the station my engineer fluttered and died. Cranked but never fired back up. I took it to a shop. They tested the engine and fuel pump and everything checked out fine. Had them drop the tank, empty it, clean it, and filled with fresh fuel and it fired back up. Also had them clean the injector heads.

Well I have talked to both parties they both are telling me it’s not their product that was the cause. I had the mechanic save me a bottle of the fuel. QT had it tested. Results We’re shown to both parties and neither has assumed responsibility. You guys have any advice? In all I have spent about $850. Which is by far the most expensive tank of gas I’ve purchased. Appreciate ya

I assume the "water would be on the bottom"?

Absolutely... I'm thinking bad gas on this. Tough thinking it was the product you put in...unless, what was in there wasn't what you thought.

Once thing I think may have happened was the seal on the additive may have been bad. Thus causing it to be exposed to the air. Wonder what lenght of time could affect it?

It's possible. Not familiar with that RP product. Usually ethanol and gasoline don't separate as well defined as that. I'm sure there is significant water there.

I'll bet you picked up water from the fill up... 20oz of RP in 20 gal of gas is a non issue. Get QT to check their tanks, they can.
The lab test results needs further interpretation..water is heavier than gas and settles out as in the sample, alcohol mixes with the fuel. 20% water separation would definitely cause your problem.

I would check with shops and tow companies in the area. If the station has water in their tanks, you aren’t the only one that got some.

Not much you can do at this point besides just moving on. You used a fuel cleaner that's been sitting for a few years that may not be sealed so I don't know how you can place blame on QT or RP.
