    I just bought a 2000 Tacoma 4x4. It currently has 15" wheels and 31x10.5x15 tires which are bald and needing replaced.

    I plan on putting a mild lift/leveling kit 2-2.5" I am guessing.

    This truck is going to be a ranch truck and probably left at our ranch. The terrain there is rough. The truck may never see pavement again. I don't want to go to any extremes lifting the truck but any additional ground clearance I can get would be great.

    My dilemma seems to be that the 31x10.50x15 isn't a very popular size tire. Very few choices at my local shop and most are backordered or discontinued and what they do have seems expensive.

    Would it make sense to switch to a different wheel size and maybe have more tire options and maybe better pricing? If so what would you recommend?

    Go to a 17” wheel and equivalent size tire like a 265/70/17.

    @Chungus,

    I'm not sure about your local shop, but Discount/America's Tire stores stock 31X10.50R-15 in 3 different brands regularly. There is still a demand for that tire size. You could also go 265/70R-16 or as @gotoman1969 recommended 265/70R-17. Either choice would involve a greater expense for aftermarket wheels though. Discount Tire Direct is our mail order division and could ship to your door also.
