That's fine. As long as the difference is enough in my favor to be worthwhile, I don't see a problem. I work to make money, why shouldn't my money do the same?

I pay in full for the things I can't afford to finance. I finance the things I can't afford to buy.

You even made it sound like the Tacoma was the first vehicle you've ever purchased since you didn't factor any trade or previous vehicle value in your perfect scenario totalling exactly 40k. Do banks even let you take a loan with zero down payment? I'm just a little skeptical here.

You can call me out, then. I'm not diverting any funds into my bank. However, the return on the money I could have used to buy my Tacoma HAS grown into the "thousands". Look at any major index funds' performance over the past few years. The gains are there, in black and white. I paid less than $1k in interest. Fund grew by more than $8k. "Thousands".

Three things. One, I still don't see where I said the return I had was the norm. I clearly stated average was around 8%.

Two. Trade doesn't matter. If I had a trade (I didn't), I would have just sold the car, put the money into one of the funds, and still leveraged the car loan 100%. Net effect in the end is the same.

Three. 100% loans are available (mine's through Toyota). With good enough credit. Which is gained by taking out loans and paying them back in a timely manner. Another benefit.

Poor people do. Or at least poorer than they were when they signed up for this site. I mean mods are always money's well spent. Right?

I have no opinion on how people spend the money they earn. Most would probaby not approve of what I spend on beer and scotch.

Easiest way to decide exactly what YOU want to pay (inclusive of fees and tax), and show up with a cashier's check. I typically pay cash for cars, and that's been very effective for me. Last year when my wife was out of town (camping in my truck with friends actually), I bought her the new body style CRV which at the time no dealers were officially offering any discount since it was so new and in high demand. I emailed 7 dealers getting their each of their best price, knocked another $1.5k off, figured out what the total with tax would be, got a cashier's check for that amount made out to the dealer that had the best reviews, and showed up to talk to the guy who had emailed me. I said it would be the shortest and easiest transaction he would do that day, handed him the check and said if he could make it happen we had a deal and if not I'd go to the next dealership until I found one that said yes. I didn't need to drive it, I didn't need to learn about it, I didn't need any free snacks or cookies, just a yes or a no. I was gone in under an hour and ended up getting free all weather mats and a bunch of other junk because they had already put it on the car (refused to pay for it and asked them to remove it which they didn't care to do). From my research online, that was one of the best prices in the country at that time, and my wife was ecstatic when she got home. Whatever you do, don't play games, and don't spend a second more of your time than necessary inside the dealership. Do everything online or on the phone and just show up to sign docs and hand over the check.

You need to look at what is included in the TRD package that's not on the SR or SR5 and decide if it's worth it to you. Some of those things can be added without too much trouble or cost and some things would be next to impossible like adding keyless start or auto climate control.

My thoughts are if the sr has the crawl control and the locker the buy that and save the money. Btw trd is a looks package only really. Nothing different about the engines or drive trains really. Just 2 different differentials and braking systems.

I’m finding most people on this site are fucking idiots. Doesn’t say much for those that buy Tacoma’s.

Nobody cares how you pay for your truck, and nobody here on TW is impressed that you have cash.
