Hows everyone doin? So quick update- My girlfriend backed into my truck so I was forced to order a few new parts I ordered these

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006J09SQM/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003ZIKZCM/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001CF5D18/ref=oh_details_o01_s02_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

and next on the docket is rims and tires. I am in northern Canada and need a good all around tire.

I am assuming that i will purchase a 17'' rim something along the lines of these

    http://tires.canadiantire.ca/en/whe...18P/factory-original-fit-steel-wheel/0096318/

what is the largest tire that i can put on that even if i have to do the BB mod.

    Thanks for the input

    Chris

Hi and welcome to the board.

Without the black box mod and no lift, the largest recommended tire size on a 5 lug is 235/75/15.

With the black box mod and no lift it looks as though people are using 30/9.5/15's which is very close to the stock size of 245/75/16 on the 6 lugs.

Using the sites tire size calculator 30/9.5/15 seems to convert nicely to 235/70/17

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/tirecalc.php?tires=30-9.5r15-235-70r17

and according to Tire Rack there are a number of brands available in that size.

    http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSearchResults.jsp?customSizeSearch=&width=235%2F&ratio=70&diameter=17

There are Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor's which people seem to like a lot around here and even 1 LRR option. I'd recommend getting the lightest tire you can that will do what you need to do so you lose as little power as possible spinning the extra weight.

If you do the black box mod and add lift you should be able to go to an equivalent of a 265/75/16 maximum.

I installed the headlights today and the guys down at the local mechanics shop helped me pull out the little dent in the radiator core support. the trucks going in to get the bumper fixed tomorrow and get the final details touched up after the accident. Im just bought some cooper tires and snow rims 17'' at 30'' tires x 9.5 hope they fit!

2007 tacoma- just wondering if that was a typo and you meant 245/75/15 instead of the 245/75/15. and can a 75 fit on my stock rim?

Install a 31" tire and you will hate your truck.
    It's geared for a 215/70-15... 27" tire.

There are 17" combos that will work fine... the X-Runner comes with 18"... but the 5 lug is a basic low-slung 2wd. It wasn't designed for off-road action.

You can run 31's, but you'll need to regear, and it's still going to hurt your fuel economy.

For now, just try to stay with something 29" or smaller.
235/75-15 will fit the stock rims and looks pretty nice.
There's some loss of power, but it's tolerable.

i drive all country roads keep the limit to 110-120 km/hr max most the time im just driving onto a site i dont really need the power infact thats why i got this truck at the moment and not a full blown 4x4 but i really need the height for the winter until i bank up enough cash for the dream truck. so if i had an 18in rim i could theoretically still have a 235 maybe a 245 tire?

Stepping the rim size up is not going to increase your ground clearance on it's own.
Going to a taller tire is going to increase the clearance, whether it's on the stock rim, or a larger rim.
Either way, the 235/75-15, at a little over 28", is the largest diameter tire advised for the 5-lug. You can do it by removing the black boxes without a lift, and it'll give you a little extra clearance.

On the power issue, it's the slow speed "driving around town" where you are going to feel it the most. Accelerating away from a stop, hill climbing... it's going to really bog down on you.

You can certainly go larger, but now you are looking at a big expense in a lift kit and regear, and it's going to hurt your trade/resale value when you decide to upgrade to a 4x4.

I have 133,000KM+ on a 2010. its been involved in 3 or 4 accidents one serious one when my old man forgot to put on the e-brake and it rolled down the hill and wrecked a structural beam in the house thus resulting in a new front end $7000 fix. so resale value doesnt really matter ima drive it till it dies or i die. i can find a set of gears on the cheap so its not that much of an issue i think. but can you make any suggestions into the size of tire and i want to do a 17 rim too i already did the BB mod so thats not a problem.

I think 245/75 is pushing it too far.
