I have recently started using Waze and didn't want a cumbersome phone mount. I did some research and found the TechMatte mounts on Amazon for like $7-11 bucks. There are a bunch of different brands of the same thing - I picked TechMatte since it had the most reviews. I'm using this in a truck with the premium JBL head-unit.

    I ordered three of them:

    • MagGrip CD for the 2016 Tacoma
    • MagGrip Vent 360 for my 2015 Charger SRT 392
    • MagGrip Vent for my 2002 Tacoma

All of them work well. If you don't use the CD player in your Tacoma, (I don't use it, personally) then the MagGrip CD may work well for you. I have an iPhone 6 Plus and it holds my phone with a fairly bulky (thick) case with no issues. Can't get much easier than to just stick it to the holder and go. I've had the clamp type holders in the past which were a pain in the ass, especially with this large form factor phone.

I have no affiliation with this brand, just happened to be the one I picked. One mod I made was modifying another screw for the hold down. This is due to it having a rather large plastic knob on it by default and being a bit longer than it needs to be. If you have a Dremel, cut the hold down screw so only about 1/4" extends out of the holder when fully tight and then slot the end to use a small flat head screwdriver to snug it up. This removes the plastic knob from getting in the way of the screen.

    Then go out and drive!

Love WAZE. Use it with the truck's Nav and the Garmin in the Miata

Mine mounts to a Mat on the dashboard

Looks like a great alternative. I really like the idea of the magnet. Don't really like a case on my phone though. I always heard so much about the Kenu airframe. Here is how it works in my taco. Super simple and $25 bucks. So far super sturdy and very inconspicuous without the phone on it.

For $11, it's hard to beat IMO. It comes with two metal plates to go on your phone. A larger one if you're using a case - it just sits between your phone and your case. The second is a smaller circular one which has an adhesive backing which is used if your phone does not have a case. I put both plates side by side in between the case and my phone so that I had more area for the magnets to attract to.

Interested in more information about this. Do you use it in ADDITION to the nav in your truck/Garmin or is it incorporated somehow? Seems like I have seen WAZE updates when using Google Maps on the iPhone a few times.

    TIA

OP I live on a very rough road, River washed out road other day I have to use 4L to go the first mile to work. Will the Magnet CD holder hold when the truck is bounced around?

Not sure. It would depend on the phone and your case.

The flat area on top of the Nav is begging for some type of mount to be for it.

I use WAZE in ADDITION to the nav. The WAZE app delivers police information, traffic information and as a User I input what I see as well. I don't use it for NAV but for INSTANT Road ahead information left by other WAZE users

Jet.com has Uniden LRD950 GPS Radar Detectors for about $133 if you uncheck free return shipping and use a 20% off coupon. This was a nearly $400 detector. I bought two, one for the Tacoma and one for my 2015 Charger SRT. I did a little creative mounting using a rear view mirror mount (PerformancePackage Mirror Mount for Beltronics RX65 on Amazon). Now I have radar and Waze. The radar saved my ass today, Waze had nothing. Whew.

I have the Nite Ize Steelie Car Mount Kit and it works perfectly. I can tilt my phone around in all different directions and it stays firmly in place. Side benefit is the magnet that attaches to the back of my phone case allows me to slap it on anything metal and it'll stay in place, like on my workout equipment. Oh, it saved my ass about a month ago when I set my phone on top of my car while I was loading up some gear. Drove off and forgot it was still up on the roof until about 5 miles down the road, pulled over and it was still "stuck" right where I left it.

Thanks for this! I actually ordered this the first time I saw your post. Thanks to Amazon Prime, its here in just 2 days... but... do you mind taking a picture of how your knob looks like now?... It's the only thing that bothers me as well..

Yes, I'll send you a pic of my knob. That's usually more of a request that comes from the ladies, but hey, it's 2016.

haha. Joking aside, yes, I'll do that after work today. I used a slightly different part from when I scavenged through my parts bin and found a tie-rod from an RC car with the same threads. I cut that down instead of the one that came with the holder because I didn't know if it would turn out the way I wanted. It did which was nice.

Quick little fix for that thumb screw is a M5 (x20), but I believe the actual bolt size is a standard 10-32 (x.75).

I moved mine to the far left of the CD slot. That helped with my view of the clock after I replaced the screw. However my radio is a little different, but for $12, it is hard to beat.
