Hello All, Recently purchased a new steel rear bumper for my 2018 TRD OR. Thought I would be swapping the license plate lights from my old bumper but that’s not the case. The new bumper came with cutouts for the lights that come with the bumper and do not accommodate the factory lights. I have never dealt with LED’s before and want to make sure I do it correctly. Several questions and any help is appreciated( pics below)

.Do the led’s have specific polarity?
. Is the resistor required or can this be connected to the factory wiring without it?(Assuming that’s a resistor in the pics)
.if needed do the resistors put off a lot of heat or can they go in a wire loom?
. Lastly, does anyone know what type male plug I can get to fit the female tag light plug? ( pic of bulb socket below. I need the same plug with pigtails) Thanks in advance for any help.

An LED is a diode, the pic is of a resistor. Since it’s a diode, polarity does matter.
You shouldn’t need the resistor for the license plate light, but you would need it for something like converting a turn signal to led.

The resistor simply makes an led look like a normal bulb to anything that monitors the power consumed by the light. Don’t think there is anything that monitors the plate light.

Thanks for the info. Didn’t want to wire it in until I had some info. Never fooled with LED’s , Resistors before and didn’t want to damage anything. Much thanks
