See my post on my install. I used about 100sf of the Noico 80 mil (foil) and about the same of the 157 mil foam on top of that. I was hesitant on the foam top (157 mil), but am glad i did. Since this was a second car, I was able to take my time. This has been almost a year since i did it. I agree with above that there's really no need to clean/prep the surface (other than vacuuming). It will take you a lot of time to do this. Most of my time was on AC rear doors and front doors. It takes time to get in most door areas.

The typically driving noise has been reduced by about 50%. I replaced entire sound system and it sounds very good. The doors now close with a Lexus type assurance. Just "knocking" on my doors, you think you are knocking on a solid wood door, not a thin piece of tin.

Would I do it again? Yes, but, like you, I am older and value my time, so I would do it with eyes wide open. It costs $300 or so in materials and will take a good two days. I would suggest upgrading everything (audio) while you are in there, since you will have the car down to bare bones.

    Most importantly, enjoy the experience!

I am planning on upgrading my factory (non-JBL) stereo also - I have seen some great ideas here.

I have sound deadened my entire cab minus the doors. I used a product called RAAMmat from RAAMAudio. When I was researching products, this was somewhere in the middle - price and effectiveness. It was easy to install, and I am happy with the results. I do need to do my doors.

I was originally thinking about replacing my HU, but looking around, I am not finding one with all the features I want - and the factory features (backup camera, bluetooth, steering wheel controls, etc). I think I will try to improve the sound of my factory unit.

As was mentioned earlier, all the years of loud noises have probably affected my hearing - maybe I don't need the audiophile system of my youth!
