So, I've had an idea that I've seen multiple videos on. I have thought about plasti dipping my front grille & rear bumper to get rid of the chrome.

I don't have a problem with doing my bumper, but the grille makes me a little nervous & I was wanting some honest opinions.

I've been thinking of how the grille would look if I covered the chrome, as well as go over the black & chrome Toyota emblem. I'm eventually going to have a grille super white grill with black mesh made by @HomerTaco but until then I'd like to get rid of that chrome somehow.

So what do you guys think?

Mostly just how the grille would look just all black, like I don't want it to be too much

Black with white emblem would look good imo.

    I'd plastidip

You can always grab an extra can of white pd and try it both ways .
    White surround with white emblem
    Black surround and white emblem.

(You probably already know the grill emblem pops right off by tabs on inside)

Do white surround with a white emblem! I also highly recommend painting instead of plastidip, because it'll be a closer match. Doesn't cost any extra, but just a little more prep work. I just did this Saturday, and it came out great.

I haven't put it back on the truck yet because I'm letting it cure for a few more days in my living room, but here it is. The toyota symbol is also now white and drying separate.

Ah! That looks so good man. Do mind if I ask about how much you paid for paint? I'm sure it wasn't too bad for just that little bit

Color matched paint cost more than plastidip.
You also need a primer made for the plastic crome material you are painting over
    Then clear coat.

There's a thread on here that shows how close white pd matches.

If and when paint chips from rocks or improper prep...not being fully cured (or just not using the right primer) it is alot of work to return to a smooth surface to be able to repaint.
Plastidip damage or chips.. you wipe naphtha on to melt back to a smooth surface to redip or peel and redip.
Plastidip is cheaper and easier to fix if/when grill gets damaged.
Paint can be better if you spend the time and money to do it properly...

Save cash for a real grill @HomerTaco

I bought 150 grit sandpaper, a can of adhesion promoter for ~7$, a primer/paint combo for 5$ and a can of clear for 5$.
Didn't buy color matched paint. The white on these trucks is so hard to match that it's not worth paying the extra. Also the "problems" you speak of are avoidable if you do the proper prep work and let it cure for 3-4 days. worst case scenario it doesn't hold up, and you have to spend $9 for a can of derp to cover it up. Seems like a no brainer.

This is the paint I used. I have yet to mount the grille back on the truck, so I can't comment on how close of a match it is. Looking at my grille, it looks like it'll be a good match. Either way closer than plastidip.

Yes, thank you. That's garden variety plasti dip and a set of depo headlights.

No. Plastidip isn't bondo. Might match better but will not cover up massive flaws like paint chips.
