Hey guys, with the first snow starting to fall in north eastern Ohio I have found that my (new to me) 2006 Tacoma Base 4x4 with the factory traction control can be unhelpful in certain situations. I had tried to do a search, however I failed to come up with an answer.

How am I able to shut off my traction control? I do not have any buttons other than "Auto LSD" l am also aware I may need to preform a "mod" to do so, however I am unsure as to what I need to do.

Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance!!

Neither did mine. It was a 2006 base model as well, only difference is that you have VSC. The ABS disable mod I did was proven by others to work well on VSC equipped trucks too.

How come mine has VSC and yours does not? Does that have something to do with the AUTO LSD? And so you're saying you were able to do the mod and bypass all of that so with a flip of a switch the truck is completely dependent on the driver? I sure hope so.. You'd be a life saver lol

Auto LSD and VSC (vehicle stability control) work together with the ABS system - actually, all the same system with different functions. And yes, with one flip of the switch, the disable mod I linked will take your truck back in time to when the driver had all the control, or lack thereof, depending on your skillz. Flip the switch back, and bingo, all the systems are working again and the warning lights go out.

If you would clear something up for me bud, on your post in the thread you linked, you noted that that is a mod for vehicles not equipped with VSC. Your mod should still work even if I have it?

Are you sure that you have VSC on an 06' ? I have an 06' TRD and it has no VSC etc...just plain ol' ABS w/ auto LSD. If you had VSC you would have a switch on the dash for it.

Oh, no sir I am not sure, nor do I have a switch. Therefore, simply put, if I don't have a switch I don't have it? Nice and simple, how I like it haha

yeah, I don't think VSC existed until a few years after our trucks...even then our ABS does some seriously strange shit sometimes too - it does not like hitting bumps while braking it seems to confuse the module. I've had it happen on the street IE: hitting a pothole while braking before a red light and the ABS just lets off of the brakes for a moment and the pedal dives. Our 07' T4R does the same shit. I have bypassed both.

Thank you both so much for giving me a hand with this! I appreciate it so much! Just out of curiosity, do either of you know of a good aftermarket switch that will fit our stock cluster or if any of the TRD/SR5/Limited have switches that are SPDT? It would be excellent if I could keep everything looking OEM

I wonder if the factory traction control switch on other models is a SPDT.. I'll have to look into that.

Or if I could use my factory AUTO LSD button and just bypass that because personally I have been in situations where it claims that would be helpful and I see zero effect when it is engaged. I'll pull it out after work and see if it's a SPDT or not.

To answer my own question, the factory AUTO LSD switch is a momentary single pole switch, guessing it either latches a relay shut or the ECM just needs a moment of signal to activate. Either or the switch will not work. Time to find another option!

Hey bud, I need a hand with one more thing. I picked myself up a single pole switch and a SPDT relay. I fully understand that the goal is to switch the signal of the wire we are intercepting. My question is what to put on the common, the wire from the connector, the wire that was cut, or the ground? Sounds much more confusing than it is. My only thought is, if the power wire was put on the common and the ground was on a switch leg, wouldn't it simply blow a fuse as soon as it were switches on? I guess to simplify the question, what is goal with the ground wire? I have an electrical background (residential/commercial, not automotive) so if I understand what the goal is I can make it happen I just am unsure with the ground. Lol Your right up was very clear, I just need a diagram of the switch you used or an explanation.

Thank you in advance.. You've been loads of help!!

For some reason, I thought trucks with auto LSD also had VSC, but I guess that wasn't until later. Sorry for the confusion.

As for the switch, the one I used is posted in the thread I linked with pictures. Since then, these have hit the market, but they are single throw on/off. I'd use one of them (available in different colours) to control a standard 5 pin relay to get the on/on function.
