I've been in touch with a dealership and I've got an interesting deal lined up for a 2017 Limited. The dealership gave me the total truck price (before TTL) of $38,000. I've attached the summary of add ons and pricing.

    A few questions:
    1. what's the difference between "invoice" and "mfg base price"?
    2. The reason I ask about invoice is because the dealership gave me a "mfg base price of $34,955"...which is obviously lower than the listed invoice of $35,940 on the beloved Tacomaworld invoice list.
    3. Knowing there is still the dealer holdback, how does this deal rate?
    4. Is there any more room to negotiate or should we take it as is?

The deal ends up basically being $63 below invoice minus TMF.

depends on what they get you for fees. Some places make a ton in fees.

Doc fee of $150 and a small county tax of $70 or whatever. relatively moot imho.

that Doc fee isn't that bad, Looks like a fair deal, but you might want to talk to the sales folks about how there is a recall out and how that make you really scared to pull the trigger on this ok deal.

I would make an offer of $36,400. Below invoice is a game...the invoice price is still higher than the dealer cost. Not sure how much difference there is on a Toyota Tacoma but there is a difference. $36,400 would be 4.2% below invoice and it's probably safe to say that their cost is less than 4.2% below invoice. All they can say is no and if they do, ask them what the absolute best price that they can do on this deal if you bought it right now would be. Maybe they will bring down that $38 price down a few more hundred dollars.

Buy it, ship me your Tonneau Cover and I will pay you $750.00 (only, no bed rails). You will save this $$$ off the purchase. I am in Phoenix.

TMF - Toyota Marketing = dealer markup? I did not have anything like this on my sales contract.
I negotiated a price (approx 90% of MSRP), this was the cash price on my contract.
    They also added ...
    sales tax,
    doc fee of $150,
inventory tax of $70 (I complained about this, they refused to take it off but gave me a $70 voucher)
    registration fees.
No marketing fees. This looks suspicious.

38k before TTL is a good deal. Take it.

The marketing fee is incredibly common. It's likely they just didn't itemize it on your price sheet.

I used Truecar.com to compare what others have paid for the same truck. It might give you some insight on the dealer's flexibility.

Ran that as well. Truecar is $39,947 plus the pre-installed bed lights that aren't an option on Truecar. I just find those sites so vague. There are so many variables that impact that price.

Are you trading something in? If so, do you owe anything on it?

Have you physically visited the dealer yet?

It must have been included in my negotiated price since there was no line item. If the 'total' price, i.e. price before TTL is below invoice, it's probably a good deal.
IMO - the Limiteds are nice!!!

Ok. This is way too much. Trade in is an imaginary good deal, in reality it's just a disposal for your old vehicle that translates into a hassle the dealer tolerates by "giving" you, say $5K in credit for a vehicle that somebody else will sell for $10K. Have you specifically stated to the dealer that there is no trade in? In their mind, could you show up with a trade?

Next, can you afford to walk away from the deal?

Where do you see anything about a trade in? But yes, I told the dealer I'll be flying in and driving out, so we're good on that. Yes, I can afford to walk away. Not spending money is easy to afford. lol

This is 110% false. My dealer made boat loads of money off trade in's..... keep in mind that many consumers are idiots and do not research every aspect of a car deal.
