I found an awesome spot that i want to hunt but cant find out if it is legal or not...Duck hunting in my boat is what i am talking about. It was a old formal rice field and there is no signs of upkeep or any use on the dike which is broken allowing boats access into it now. I would call it a tidal marsh now rather than a impountment. My problem is that a county bird watching park butts up to the backside of it. Since it is a tidal marsh now i am under the assumption that it can be hunted due to the fact that nobody can own land below the mean highwater mark. I am just worried that it might be a protected area but i cant find anything about it other than on the park map it is just a artist drawn trail map and the spot that is in question says tidal marsh. Sorry for all the jibber but i guess my real question is how do i find out if it is protected and or owned? Thanks.

Start with the county assessor. See if there are any ownership records

Well i am pretty sure on the water if it is below the average high water mark it is legal to be on and since i would be in a boat i am good there...The dike is also broken meaning it is not managed anymore and it is easy to come and go. Should i just call the county park and ask if they own/protect that land? Oh and i wont be out of the boat so i wouldnt be trespassing on anybodies land technically.

And if i call DNR i have no clue who to talk to and if they would even know. I have asked many DNR agents about certian spots and they were uncertian in the past.

Make a list and check it twice.

Mark the spot on a county or topo map and ask the county assessor, the sheriff, the park department and DNR. If you live in an Ag area, go to the local Agricultural Board.....also find out who maintains dikes in that area.......write down who you talked to (name) and the date. If you can get anything in writiing, all the better

Okay thank you. I will just start off with DNR agent first. Thanks for your suggestions. Wish this crap was easier to figure out.
