Call Toyota customer service and open a case. Most likely they will have a field rep come out and look at the truck and decide if it's cover under warranty or not. Its a new truck if you are under 36k miles and no mods on the truck, I have a hard time seeing why it will not be covered if its under 3years or 36k miles.

The diff lock 5mph speed is to activate the locker, not while its actually engaged. You can drive whatever speed while the locker is on but you dont activate it while driving around at 30 mph...

I swear have people actually ever used the stuff on their truck? Coming from the Jeep world this is patty cake shit.

If people couldnt driver over 5mph with a locker then we wouldnt see them in racecars and we wouldnt see fulltime lockers in Jeeps..we wouldnt see them on Trophy Trucks.

I had a friend in the 90s with a Chevy truck, he was a rice farmer and while working his fields his transmission went out while having it in for 4h, they denied the warranty claim because they said he was abusing the truck. he contacted his lawyer , his lawyer brought a video "like a rock" commercial that Chevy used to have out showing a vehicle going through the mud. He said fix the truck Or I will bring you the court. Just like in your case he was not joy riding, but instead trying to get out of the situation that a 4wd truck should be able to make it out . The Chevrolet rep came out and approved the claim.

best option if it was stuck for more than a few minutes would have been to call a buddy with a tow strap or a tow truck.

i really do feel bad for the OP because I have been in the same boat with grenading differentials. but i would assume it either blew up from going forward and reverse or the wheel speed was very high and a wheel finally caught traction.

i've never owned a true 4wd drive vehicle just an AWD Lexus, but I've rode with several friends with Toyota is that rock crawled / mud riding and they are very durable. With stock tires 4 low in slippery conditions , Unless the OP was slamming the transmission from forward to reverse it sure seems like a lot of damage

Back then, vehicles did not have a black box that could tell them everything leading up to rear end blowing up....now they do. Toyota already tapped into the box and they know what was going on and based off of those facts, they determined it was abuse.

Why would they cover user error? If you're stuck and put it in 4Lo and start romping on it you will break stuff. Wouldn't matter if you had 2 miles on it

Yeah mine doesn't and I don't have that sticker either .... Bro-jones' is bro for Cajones .... or bro balls.
I've driven my truck in 4WD-LO lots of times over 5mph... I think that 5mph thing is when you put the truck in Crawl at the mall.... and curb jump for the BroHo's...which btw, I approve of.

    sounds about right to me.
ya clearly didn't know what he was doing. Guess he isn't used to dealing with snow that much lol.
probably the best route if you can't come up with the $4300.
Depends what your deductible is though.
Hell the accident I was in 11 years ago was a hit and run on the highway sending me into the guard rail. Since I didn't get plates it was ruled as 50/50 which to insurance is at fault. Had I known that I wouldn't have claimed it as the $3100 repair cost me more than that over the next 7 years in increased premium.

some of the post I see in threads like these really make me wonder about the people.

Seriously there was one not that long ago where the guy full out pulled forward too much while parking and broke his front grill and wanted toyota to replace it under warranty.

am I the only one not thinking that he was hammering it in 4lo but the fact he was hammering it in general?

Seriously does no one know how to drive in snow?
Best to just let off the brake and roll back and forth slowly flattening snow and practically building a ramp out of the snow.
As soon as you start spinning wheels you're just digging yourself deeper.

last weekend I got the truck stuck in snow and that was only because I was in 2wd, just flipped the switch to 4hi after stopping so that the wheels weren't spinning and revs werent high, as soon as it engaged just let off the brake and pretty much just gave it enough throttle to just get it to roll an inch at a time. after doing it 3-4 times was able to just drive forward with no issue at all.

And I can completely agree with that. Good tips on driving in snow I've never had to do it before because in South Louisiana we either have mud or ice. Mud you need wheel speed for, and I should just have to hold on

Yeah the only purpose for wheel speed is to clean up the tread from the mud, but if you can reach the bottom of the muddy area a lot of times you can just walk through it if it is hard packed
