It is too late for you now but what I always do and have never had issues is a
little before I get to where I am going I turn off the ac and turn the fan on high to help
    dry out the evaporator.

You will need to do something now like what Jimmyh has posted.

Check for a dead mouse in the blower... it can and does happen.

Just spray some Lysol or Febreeze in the fresh air intake

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
This is what I'd recommend too. There are Youtube videos showing you where/how to do it. I bought this AC system cleaner spray from a local auto store for like $7 and it did work, but I'll warn you that whatever the chemical is is harsh stuff. Good Lord, I was breathing it for a week and it was burning my lungs. I had to park with the windows open just to help clear it out. Nasty stuff. Next time I'm going the Lysol route.

Check the drain hose, might be plugged and not allowing all the condensated water out. That smell is from a bit of water being left over from either a plugged drain or not running the A/C long enough (short trips) If you found allot of leaves and such im willing to bet the drain is plugged.

Id rather smell that stale smell for a few miles over any chemicals. My Sierra was bad for that but it would clear up after 10-15mins or driving.

I'm betting this. Just had it happen on my 1998 Sonoma, started to smell, never had an issue with that, Drain was plugged, cleaned it out and back to cold non stinky air as usual.

You should see a small puddle of water under the passenger side when you park after using the AC, that should tell you its draining correctly.

I had a mouse build a nest in mine within the first 15k of owning it. I live in the city BTW. I discovered that I can stick my fingers up inside that cavity from the filter side. It funnels down so big debris like leaves and mouse nest can sit up in there and you can't tell. Now I check every oil change. Little bastard chewed all the foam that lines the walls inside the intake and some from the firewall in the engine bay. Must be soy based or something.

When I changed my engine air filter a couple months ago I found bird seed in the intake box. Luckily nothing chewed. I dont know if it was a mouse or a chipmunk. I have a chipmunk that gets in my garage and steals bird seed. Hes also been wreaking havoc on my landsacaping. I set up a live trap to get him. The other day I noticed he set it off and was inside it. I was like, WOOT. Me - 1 : Chipmunk - 0. I went to pick up then trap and the chipmunk squeezed through the cage holes and ran under my deck. I dropped my head and walked away in defeat.

Lol, when I read the title , my first thought was " stop picking up working girls from that street then, and try another location"
