I'm trying to figure out a sound that my truck is making and need to know as soon as possible.

The sound is a ticking noise that seems to be coming from the driver side under the hood and/or behind the driver side wheel. The noise only happens under two conditions. 1) when the accelerator pedal is being pressed and the engine is running at ~1,500 rpm and above. 2) occasionally on a cold start the noise happens for approximately 15-30 seconds when idling.

The noise increases in speed and volume as the engine's rpms increase, but immediately stops when I take my foot off of the accelerator. The noise does not happen when idling, except for the previously mentioned cold start or when the transmission is in neutral.

I've attached a link to a video of the noise, that I recorded. In the attached video, the noise is subtle and sounds like background noise compared to the wind noise, but can still be heard. The first half of the video is recorded from outside the driver side window and the second half is recorded from around the pedals on the driver side.

taco tick...... (i didnt watch the video.)

Judging from where you are hearing it from thats the taco tick. It sounds a bit different tho. Did you just do a oil change by any chance?

Sounds like a manifold leak to me..and based off your description it would be the driver side manifold.

Could be you are low on oil. Check there for starters. Otherwise pop the hood and start the motor and get a new video and see if you can pinpoint the sound that way. For future reference I do 6qts of oil on my changes and gets rid of the ticking noise. That is if this is the actual culprit of your sound.

You could try a long wooden dowel. Be careful of moving parts. Touch the dowel to where the noise could possibly be coming from. You might be able to sorta feel the vibration the noise is making.

I checked the oil this morning and it's still full. Last time I changed it I put 5.8 quarts in.

Well then its not the easy fix. I would start checking what the others said with the manifold and trying to pin point exactly where the noise is coming from with the hood up and the engine running.

@M1ldyAdequate, did you get this problem resolved? My truck just started doing the same thing on our last wheeling trip, only passenger side. Gonna check a few things mentioned above, but just curious what you got figured out.
    Thanks
