My 08 tacoma has the 4.0L V6 with 105,000 miles. I just started noticing an oil leak which has sprayed oil everywhere under the engine making it very difficult to find where the source is. It’s definitely not valve gasket (No oil on top end, just near bottom.) There is an excess of build up on the crossmember directly under the engine. Any ideas?

If it's engine oil then a few places to check - Front crank seal, timing cover seal (specifically in the area behind the power steering pump), and the little timing chain access cover on the passenger side of the water pump.

Clean entire area well. The spray on degreaser works pretty well. Then star truck and idle for as long as it takes for the oil to show, then trace to source. The air moving around while driving is what makes the mess. May need to up the rpm’s to make it leak sometimes.

Go to an autoparts store and get the $6 bottle of uv dye, and a cheap uv flashlight. You'll find it easy.

    Clean. Spray gold bond. Re-evaluate.

Oil goes down from gravity. It goes backward due to driving forward and fan blowing back.
and drips over stuff giving there's no straight path

meaning if it has been doing this for a while, it's too late to catch it fresh and see exactly where it's coming from
since it's had time to spread out over everything. To look like everything is leaking.

So clean it. And find specifically where it's coming from, after it is cleaned.
