Hey folks, been a while since I posted but I was hoping to see if anyone could help me out

I just replaced both my CV axles/half shafts. Have driven maybe 400 miles since doing so. Driving today I noticed that when I turn right I heard a clunk noise. Looked under there and saw there is some play in my passenger side CV. I looked into CV play and saw that some movement is normal, but mine seems a little different (it's not vertical play, more horizontal in and out of the inboard spline/socket). Check the attached GIF. I'm wondering if I just didn't get the c ring to lock it into place. If anyone can confirm that jacking it up and tapping on the end of the CV will help I will give it a try, otherwise going to take it in. Hoping the axle isn't a lemon or something.

    Thanks for helping

Normal, in fact I do that wiggle to make sure it's installed correctly.

So then... what gives with the clunking noise?

Could you be over reactive due to concern over your own repair? You obviously checked all fasteners and tightened the shit out of the big axle nut.

It is possible you have a bad axle, but it would be more consistent I would imagine. I usually have issues with 1 in 20 aftermarket axles.

Clunking I tend to look at sway bar links on the 1st gens and bushings, see what condition they are in.

Does it happen all the time, or just the one time?

Could be a little concern due to my repairing it but the clunking doesn't seem normal. I noticed it 3 times today in driving it. Not every time I turn to the right, and not always at the same amount of turn. One time was just a little to the right of center, one was as I was turning off the street into a parking lot. Last one was turning to back into my driveway

As I am thinking about it, I did undo the left sway bar link to get the CV out. Went out and poked it. Sure enough it's pretty loose! Thanks for jogging my memory, I'll see if tightening that doesn't help.

Mine does same thing. I replaced sway bar end links...still does it. Been like that since I replaced needle bearing a few years ago
