Hi all. I want to put a rack on top of my cap in case I need to carry a ladder, canoe, etc. I bought a used ARE cap which already has tracks installed. I want to fit the crossbars to the existing tracks rather than remove the old tracks and drill new ones. Problem is, I don't know what style or manufacture of crossbars will fit.

Here's a picture of the cap

    Thanks.

Both are Stock - built correct from the start.
Those look like old Side Loader rails. They're meant to mount on the side of a topper or van, with the "short L" on the lower side. Then you would use Rain Gutter Towers for it. A good thing is those towers usually come up on Cl pretty cheap. Contact Yakima for sure. They have great customer service. Below may help:

Also: If you want to do it "right", just order the correct rails, remove old, lay new rails over same place, drill up through existing hole, caulk well and bolt. No new holes!

Yakima and Thule both made side mounting brackets (google "artificial rain gutters") for their early clamp style but as noted, they were designed to be mounted on the side and they were short, maybe 4 or 5" sections; I've still got a set in storage from my VW Westy days. IIRC, there were some top mounts made for ladder racks for vans and shells and I think ConFer made a top mount clamp as well but you don't see them anymore.

The Smittybuilt clamps may work with those sections but for what you'll spend I'd also second just replacing them with standard tracks. You don't have to spend a fortune; look for used if you want or check out the the Proline top tracks. They will work with Yakima and Thule products (ex. https://www.prolineracks.com/proline-roof-end-track-slats.html). I'd also strongly recommend more than three bolts if you plan to actually carry anything.

Those tracks are designed for racks that attach to a rain gutter. Here is a picture of a Yakima rack on the same tracks.
