I run 520SMRs in my plate bumper holes and they have been great. They have held up to the repeated underwater excursions and vibrations. They are also surprisingly bright for the size. They are $$ though.

PIAA in my opinion is way overpriced. For the money you can do a lot better. Hella 500's are a bit weak as I understand. I currently have Lightforce 240's on my truck and they are insanely bright with incredible distance, but they are very large and have limited beam patterns.

You might see if some of the smaller Cibie stuff would work. I read a fairly decent comparison recently in PDF format from an Australian off road magazine that did a full comparison of off road lights. Cibie Oscar SC ranked highly for an overall beam, Lightforce got the high ranking for distance (and durability).

Costco sells a kit with dual-beam IPF 968's for less than $100 and come with both 55 and 100w bulbs that get good reviews. They are sized similarly to Hella 500's but reportedly put out much better light.

Generally though, the bigger the reflector, the more light gathered.

Also, avoid the PNP kit. They are very offensive to other drivers, especially when out of the city. Proper projectors are GTG, though.
