Having a sound issue with my current system hoping one of you experts can save me some time.

Current set up is Kenwood Excelon DMX709S head unit
    Alpine RA 75F 4 channel amp (100w RMSx4 @4ohm, 150wRMS x4 @ 2 Ohms)
Alpine SA60M mono running a Kicker 10" box
    JBL GTO 620 rear doors
JBL stadium 6x9 3 way components in front door, dash and A piller (3ohm)
Running JBL passive crossovers made to plug and play with 3 way set up.
4 gauge wiring to both amps. Recoil install kit with recoil RCAs

Installed 6-7 moths ago. Everything sounded great up until about 3 weeks ago I noticed the drivers side mid in the dash started to sound scratchy. I unplugged the mids from the crossovers and set them to 2 way just running the tweets and woofers. Seemed to be ok. A few days later I noticed the fronts sounded funky. Sounded like the passenger side was weak and the drivers side was overpowering and tinny sounding. This was at lower volumes. If i canked it up to about 30 it sounded like shit for 5 seconds then it came right into it and it sounded fine from low volume all the way to max. Until I shut the truck off. The next time I started it, same thing. Pulled doors apart an checked all connection. Found a little water (drops) on top of woofers and screws looked a little rusty. Cleaned everything up and put it all back together after making some canopies for the speakers to shed water. Same thing. Sounds like shit when I start the truck and after a few minutes If I put the volume to it all of a sudden it comes alive and sounds fine. And by fine I mean its crystal clear and shakes the windows. I have it set up with a DD1 I purchased at the time of install so I know even at max volume I'm getting clean sound all the way out of the amps. It sounds impressive.

I would think if a speaker was cooked or had water damage or even a bad connection it wouldnt sound as good as it does after I turn it up. Is it possible I have a crossover on it's way out? I have no problem wiring it active, but don't have a bunch of free time right now to find out after it wasn't the problem. The problem is that once it starts playing correctly it may be a whole day before it acts up again and sometimes it doesn't do it at all. Sorry for the long post just trying to offer as much info as possible. I have a DVM and I have been a mechanic for over 30 years but I don't have much audio experience. Any help or insight would be appreciated. I have no problem spending cash replacing a bad component if I need to and I was tempted to pull the trigger on some Alpine X speakers, but don't want to start throwing good money after bad. The problem appears to be in the drivers side front channel.

I'm heqding out now to pull the drivers seat and check all of the amp connections etc. If everything looks good I may re wire the crossovers to opposite sides and see if the problem follows the crossover. Once again sorry for the long winded post

I would start by checking loose connections and bad grounds. Then start a process of elimination by unplugging each component until it goes away.

typically that's the symptom of a loose connection. i've also seen amps go bad and do similar. i've got a number of older analog volume knob home stereo units that will do this as well when the potentiometers need cleaning.

easiest way to rule out the amp is to swap the wires at the amp-- run the left channel on the right side, and the right channel on the left. if you still have issues, you can fuss with the knobs on the amp-- just work them forward/backwards and put them right back to where they were. if it clears up after that, it's going to be the amp potentiometers that need cleaning, but i would suggest replacing the amp instead-- the cleaning never sticks around.

agree with soundman. Try swapping the left and right front on the amp. If the problem follows, your amp might need investigation.
This doesn't sound like a speaker problem.

Hey thanks for the advice gents, I appreciate the advice and apologize for the delay in updating. Before i pulled the seat to double check things I realized when I unplugged the mids from the crossovers I left the mid crossovers plugged in to the 2 way crossover and just switched the crossover from 3 way to 2 way. Not sure why leaving it like that would have caused a problem, but I ended up unplugging the unused mid crossovers from the 2 way crossover and pulled them right out and it seems to have cleaned up the issue for now. I'll update if things change. Thanks again
