Hello all, need some guidance. I tried researching this issue and have come up with mixed results. How do you unlock the drivers (or any door) with the key embedded in the key fob/key card. Every time I try it sets off the security alarm. I thought I saw somewhere were you need to unlock it, then lock it and then unlock it again, but that doesn't seem to work

So, yes it's in the manual, but I'm not gonna be that guy. Truck thinks someone picked the lock and made forceable entry so it sets off the "alarm". Only way IIRC to get it to stop is to turn the ignition on which senses the smart key. Otherwise it thinks someone is trying to steal it.

To add: generally if you lock with the fob, you should unlock with the fob. If you lock with the physical key, it may not alarm when you unlock with the key (basd on my experience with other Toyotas; I don't have a 2024).

But there’s no need to “recall” if you read the manual. I pointed him to it. I’m “that” guy.

I had already read the manual prior to posting the question. So bottom line is no, you have to put up with the alarm going off when you use the key period.

Even if you lock it manually with the key?

Only time you should need the key is if the truck's battery had died, preventing power locks from working. In that case, the alarm won't sound.

Been this way with 3rd gen and I think 2nd gen for close to two decades.

    On my 2012:
    1. Lock with remote + unlock with remote = no alarm

    2. Lock with remote + unlock with key = alarm

    3. Lock with key + unlock with key = no alarm

I'd be really surprised if #3 alarms on the new truck, but you never know.

In what situations are you wanting to unlock using the key and not the fob?

It's mainly so when the battery in your fob is dead, you get get in and start it.

Wrong. I used the manual key every day for four years when I had my 3rd GEN, never a problem

I don't know, but that's what it's for. Batteries die.

Was this after having locked it with the fob?
