Hey, new to the Tacoma world and the forum. Just bought a 98 Tacoma SR5. I was installing a new e brake cable and noticed a plug hanging down from the engine. I looked around and couldn’t find and obvious place. I learned a lot from these forums so I hope this isn’t too much of an idiot question. Here’s a photo.

It’s close to the e drake assembly on the drivers side. Light blue in color. Any ideas?? Thanks from the newbie!!

Check the transmission on the other side.

It’s a manual. Does it have some sort of plug in associated with it?

Yes - there's two on the passenger side if you're 4x4 (one on the trans and one on the transfer case). The only other things down there are O2 / AFR sensors on the exhaust and another on the front diff if you're 4x4. I can't remember if that's afr / O2 or transmission / transfer case and I'm at work instead of being at home working on my truck where I should be lol.

Hey, I really appreciate the help!!! It’s a 4x4 and no way it will reach much further than where it dropped down to. Dropping from the midpoint on the engine block. Was hopeing that it was associated with the ac condenser... That’s out and it’s hot as hell here. Thanks again.

The O2 and AFR have long pig tails to reach from the exhaust - can you confirm if your sensors are on the exhaust? You want to be looking on the passenger side of the truck no matter what though - there's no connectors on the driver's side under there.

Throw it over to the other side of the transmission - I just installed a 4x4 manual transmission and like I said the only connectors are on the passenger side. The wiring harness crosses over the top of the transmission right where you showed the connector hanging. The AC condenser is a mile away in the front of the engine.

Just check the transmission by the shifter, the transfercase shifter, and the two sensors on the exhaust.

Got under there and both of the sensors are plugged in properly. This plug wire is attached between the two O2 sensor wires/plugs. It can go over the transmission but not sure what it goes to if the O2 sensors are accounted for.....AFR?..what’s AFR? Sorry for the dumb question.

All attached in the same area in the wiring harness I guess is what I was trying to say.

It looks like the plug you can unplug to get the truck to go into 2 wheel drive in low range.

Try putting it low range with the 4wd button disengaged to get 2 lo.

1st- do you have a check engine light? If not that would rule out the O2 sensor connector. My first thought was transfer case position sensor- try shifting through all 4X4 and actually give it a drive/test (the connection is really way up in there). Second is I know there's a speedo sensor wire near there, but you'd know real quick as your speedo won't move.

I hope that helps rule a few things out. I would be shifting through the 4X4 to find out.

No check engine light. The speedo works....so I guess it’s time to try shifting through all 4x4 positions. Thanks for all the help!

    Working on them
That one appears to be the Shift Solenoid connector for the AT it is in the listed position for it and has the correct plug configuration, it is defiantly not for the AC unit since none of the AC unit plugs are located near that area
