Need help identifying this transfer case

Need some help here I ordered a transfer case for my first gen pre runner 4x4 conversion, the transfer case they sent me was supposed to fit 96-2003 Tacoma but seems like the shifter does not actually sit in the transfer case seems like it would go in the transmission can some one please explain, thanks

 

2.7L Transfer case. Clearly can see the shift gear heads. It is a forward shift TC instead of a top shift TC. If you have the VIN number of the vehicle the TC was pulled from, send me a message and I can look up the specs.

Thanks for the info so if it’s a forward shift could I still use it on my conversion 2002 pre runner A/T or do I absolutely need to top shift
