Can you help me to identify a part so that I can potentially buy new/used ones? I have a 1997 Taco that has front hubs which are turned manually to provide 4-wheel drive. Around both of those hubs are what I assume are trim pieces that may also provide some protection from rocks and mud for the manual hubs. I've come up empty in online searches for this, even after using the excellent parts document for 1st gens available on this site. There are no numbers marked on the pieces, either.

These trim pieces are rings which are painted black. On the back side are teeth, or tangs, that fit into a groove, just inside of the lugs, to hold the ring snugly. Both of these trim pieces have lost some teeth/tangs to rust, one so much that it no longer will stay on. I've included several pics - both of the part that no longer can be used, and of the one that is still in use, installed. The installed one can be seen as the black, outermost part of the hub assembly.

I'd really appreciate any help that anyone can give me! Thanks.IMG_3373.jpg IMG_3374.jpg IMG_3375.jpg IMG_3376.jpg

I've never seen those 'rust catchers' before. Rather ugly and useless. I'd get rid of them.

    I've never seen them either, I wonder if they're off a 3rd gen pickup / 2nd gen 4runner.

I've had no issues with my manual hubs and I've never had those covers

I had them on my steelies for my 96 years ago. went with different stock wheels right after I bought it and got rid of the steelies with those covers.

Yes, these are steel wheels. The truck was bought new by my dad, and no modifications where made to it. I mostly use it to haul firewood.

@Holy schmidt - that's a great offer! I'll wait to hear from you, and we can talk over terms if you find them.

@cruiserguy - Wow! Yes, that looks like it! I'll see if Holy_Schmidt turns his old ones up first, then probably order new if he does not find them. Many thanks!

Thanks for looking, anyway! I'm going with the used ones from the link above, I think.

Toyota part number 42603-35600, but looks like prices are around $33/34. ehubcap might be your best option, nice find!

Just a followup - I found a guy on ebay who was selling a full set of front (open) and rear (closed) hub rings/caps. The fronts were nearly perfect, and the total with shipping was the cost of one brand new open hub ring, so I went with his sale. Note: if you go the ebay route, be sure to measure your old rings/caps, and they were originally made in two heights (mine being the shorter). I double-checked that before ordering.

But I couldn't have done the ebay search without first knowing what the original item name/number was - so thanks, all!
