Gents my fuel estimation process has went like so tank 1 from dealer drove till light hit odo said 260 tank 2 filled max drove to half tank marker odo said 127.8 filled up at half tank (87 oct) took that gallonage and drove to half tank again odo said 127.6 drive the rest of the tank down to light odo said 234.6 repeat repeat repeat so on and so on.

I then filled max 89 oct this time)got some Seafoam and put it in my Vaccum line and fuel milage was realllly bad on that tank I chualked it up to the revving and blowing whatever crud that was there out. A couole of tanks later and same methods said above used same thing 89 127-130 at half 264 at light. That was the best 2 tanks yet then it dropped to 128-130 at the half and 220-230 at the light using 89 from various gas stations.

So I thought well I screwed up my plugs w Seafoam, changed the plugs while I was doin that I took care of the other under the hood processes I mentioned. Other than a lil oil and some carbon build up old plugs looked ok. I have ran 3 more tanks of gas using the same method w new plugs and other prev. Maint and Im still getting the same milage as before

the maint reqd light is just a reminder for oil change, which should be reset when you change oil, it will start flashing at 4500mi and stay on when you hit 5000mi

as far as mpg's my 06 DBCSB averages about 16mpg's hiway or city, doesn't seem to change whether I have the stock tires or my 305's

as far as hiway, when I get on I'm usually running 70-75mph cause I just want to get where I'm going

Save the hassle. The ONLY thing that light means is that it's time for an oil change.

It simply didn't get reset at the last service.

Bigger heavier tires  kill fuel economy.

Every now and again I put some Lucas oil in the tank to keep the injectors running smooth.

Wouldn't a bad O2 sensor make the check engine light come on? I know it did on my old 1st gen.

This is a Certified Used Veh. so you would have thought they would have reset the light who knows Reguardless its going to the dealer on tues .... I'll let you know what they say The O2 Sensor is what Im leaning towards myself through this whole mess .. or a minor exhaust leak

Not sure never experienced the problem myself. Had a friend that had one go out though and it killed his mpg's and I don't think the CEL came on.

Make sure all the ducting to the MAF is tight so there is no false air and look for any vacuum hoses that are split, worn or off completely especially around the fuel pressure regulator. Rubber hoses and wiring can get caught and burn under the EGR valve, too. Engines don't like vacuum leaks or electrical shorts.

Make sure your tires are up on pressure (I know you have). I personally would set them around 34-5 psi and see how that works out.

And one other thing (I know ths is stupid but I've done it) make sure you're not driving around in 4x4 Hi!

I cant really complain ,I had an 05 F-150 that I was only getting 10-12 mpg and the Tacoma is getting 18 to 19.50 ..Can't quiet get 20 yet but I think it will when the weather warms. This truck and our 07 Corolla are the only two vehicles that have ever gave the gas milage that they were suppose to.according to the sticker..I'm happy with both of them..

    You're right. Brain fart.

OP, listen to everything I said, except the part about running it down until the light comes on. Just keep track of miles and then at top off, divide miles by gallons added.

The whole 230-260 on a tank thing is meaningless, because he isn't defining a "tank." Obviously, he isn't running it from full until it dies. I just used 17 for my calculations, based on the assumption that he was running it until the light came on and then filling up very shortly after.

so the number of miles to a tank doesn't matter? right now I'm at 240, on E, and I have an 08 prerunner with a 6" lift on 35" mud terrain tires, stock gears, no engine mods at all to improve gas, and stock exhaust, which I'm getting ready to switch to flowmaster, so what would be the best mods for a truck like mine? some of you suggest mods for a certain number of miles, etc I'm at 36k

is 240 bad for a whole tank? when I fill up I'll use the same pump and divide by the number of gallons I put in and see what it is, but I know it'll be 16ish gallons and probably end up being 15ish, any ideas? or is that about the best it's going to get for the size tires I have? thanks!

ok so its actually 18 gallons instead of 16 putting me at 13.5 mpg lol that's not so good, but like I said it probably won't get much better since I run 35s right?
