I've heard stories of calc 2 haha

I'm way lost on these three hw papers though. Lecture notes are pretty useless.

don't worry, ...there's even more to look forward to beyond that! ...triple integrals and partial derivatives, ...and if you're really feeling it, you could go on to differential equations :D

After I finish Calculus 4 I have one last math course, "Linear Algebra and Differential Equations" :help:

I thought calc 3 was the easiest of all of them, Diff straight sucks dick though. I just floundered my way through it not knowing what was going on the whole time and somehow passed it in one shot. I am so glad to have the whole calc line of classes in the rearview forever haha.

I can work on the second page today, don't have much going on

Ok I have pretty much all of HW 14 done, I at least did all the differentiation. Some of em I wasn't sure what exactly was being asked for part b.

But my handwriting sucks and is too light so they didn't come through on the scanner, I'll type them up and post them up

Ok here ya go... I said fuck typing them and just took pictures with my phone. Hopefully you can decipher my handwriting

Wasn't sure what it meant on part B to not leave dy/dx in the answer. I just left it in, hopefully you can run with it from there

    Same thing on this one

The last couple I just did the differentiation (which would be the tangent equation) but didn't know what do do with it from there.

If you click on the pics it takes you to my photobucket where they're rotated correctly, don't know why that didn't transfer over with the links

hmm, ...yes, i remember we took a linear algebra type class, we did some analytical, but it was based largely on using computer numerical methods for solving matrix-based equations... the diff-eq class was entirely analytical, ...though i enjoyed it much more than the linear algebra/numerical methods...

i thought it was pretty neat to see how to analytically compute the volume of geometric objects and such - i know, geek :D

...diff eq is pretty dry, ...but it does have extensive applications in fluid mechanics, electromagnetism, thermodynamics, and so on... things start to come together in the cirriculum the farther along you get, ...if you build your foundation solidly, you'll have a better time at it ;)

Yeah somehow I went from calc one to calc three... :goingcrazy: Needless to say I'm a bit lost. I've got a high B right now so I'm happy though

Thanks for all the help! I had to turn in the hw yesterday but I'll still compare to your answers soon as I get my papers back. The test are comprised of hw questions so it's important I know this stuff.

Skipped calc 2? Lucky then cause everybody tells me that's the hardest one.

Yeah I can see how it'd be cool to mathematically model systems like that (the only thing I really got a grasp on was the "tank mixing" problems, where you know the rates of incoming stuff getting mixed together and the outflow rate and you can calculate at what time a specific ratio will be reached and how long it'd take the tank to empty and stuff). A lot of it was my teacher I think, he's a good teacher but very tough test writer. The dude was a super genius and could make old calculus stuff appear out of nowhere in a problem to make sure we were still sharp. It was also his first semester teaching diff, so he kinda blew through everything because of how well he knew it and it was difficult for him to "dumb it down" to where I could catch on haha.

I'm sure once I have a practical application in another class it'll come together (at least I sure hope so :/ )

I'm probably gonna go back and take calc 2 next semester actually. Since I'm doing engineering most likely I want my math to be really solid.

Thanks again I could use all the help I can get. I'm essentially trying to teach myself because my instructor isn't great, but it's not going as well as it has for previous classes haha

I feel ya there... put a little too much faith in my laptop last semester that had all my notes in OneNote, naturally the hard drive failed and google drive wasn't working like I thought it was. After contemplating running away and being a hooker, I smashed the fuck out of the laptop and started trying to teach myself using the text books. I actually did way better that way then when I had notes from the teacher, I pretty much quit taking notes in class and just listened. That and a lot of luck on tests carried me through the semester with a pretty decent GPA.

When I go back next semester, I'm getting some damn spiral notebooks haha. And a new laptop...

    are you an engineering major?

...if so, there should be plenty of courses as you progress through the ciriculum where you'll apply the fundamentals like this, ....if you can, take a fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and/or control theory class, ...get to formulate "transfer functions" for modeling systems and such, ...very cool, i enjoyed it!

    muthafuckin math, bitch!

We get essentially unlimited laptops at school, they're included in our tuition and they purchase the protection plans with all of them for 3 years so you can just go turn it in and get a new one if it happens to "malfunction". I admit I shouldn't have done it, but I had a weak moment and was ungodly pissed that I lost an entire semester's worth of notes. Overall, no harm no foul

Yup, mechanical engineering Junior(ish) currently. I'm in the controls class when I go back in the spring, but other than that the only applied calc I've seen is very basic integrals in Dynamics class. There was also a way to use Eigenvectors we were taught to come up with stresses "for fun" but we also learned an easier method
