Same. The overhead on my '05 stopped working over a decade ago, and it has never seemed worth the time and expense to fix it.

Well, you could replace that with a Toyota upgraded module. They are available on Amazon from Toyota dealers for ~$125. I replaced mine about 10 years ago, and it's still going strong.

Oh, interesting, thanks, although I am not seeing it on Amazon.

I kid you not, when the compass first failed and I inquired about a new one from the stealership, they wanted like a grand to replace it (I could be mis-remembering a bit because its been a over a decade). No thank you.

    I got it fixed.
I followed the DIY here on TW.
The link to the DIY no longer show the pictures.
But anyways, I found the chip that had come un soldered.
I took it to a local truck stop with a CB Radio Shop.
They resoldered the chip for me free.
I still gave the guy $10. Took him less than 5 mins.

If you decide to try it. Be careful taking the smoke colored screen of the front on the display.
    It can break easily.

That was the same for me too, but I think Toyota finally got off their duff and created this very reasonably priced module for 05-08 Tacomas:

    https://www.amazon.com/2005-2008-To...79967082&sprefix=toyota+compas,aps,147&sr=8-1

Pretty sure they fixed it in later Tacomas, but the early 2nd gen Tacomas had bad circuit boards. I'm guessing the 09- Tacomas had that fix from the factory.

thanks. I would guess that the issue on mine is similar because if I jiggled the unit around, it would work again intermittently for a while.

    Yes. Mine did too.
Then it finally wouldn’t work even if you smacked hard. Lol
