Ok guys, i am looking for a laptop backpack.
i am gonna need it for both carrying a laptop and for carrying my college books. I will be starting at VT this fall

i will have a lot of books so it will need to be rather large, but not something HUGE

I would like it to be waterproof, but it is not needed.

I just figured that this would be a good place to ask as i know that at least few people on this forum are in college.

I will be carrying a Lenovo x220 if that helps

    thanks for all your help

I'm not in college anymore but I do travel some for my work. I got tired of carrying a laptop briefcase and wearing out my shoulder so I got a backpack. I got one of these from REI. It's got a padded laptop compartment, not sure if it's waterproof. The middle compartment has a few dividers in it and you could probably stuff a few books in there.

A little thing that makes a difference on bags like this is the color of the fabric used inside the compartments. Darker fabrics make it difficult to find stuff. When I was looking at bags at REI there was one that had yellow lining. I thought it was weird until I realized why.

I have an older version of that same backpack and it works like a champ. I've carried 2 17" laptops, power supplies, mouse, lunch, and extra snacks/notepads. It gets hefty but it works well.
