Need help picking door speakers for system :)

I need help finding door speakers for my 2011 tacoma double cab. I have a kenwood DNX6190HD unit,jl 13 TW5-3 powered by jl audio xd 600/1 amp. I just need direction in picking door speakers and amp that will thrive with this set up. thank you guys for your help.

 

Price range? For the amp, I'd say go with a JL xd 600/4 since you have a 600/1 already.

 

Best way to pick them, go out and listen to them in stores and see what sounds best to you.

 

or better yet, in someone's car .. store displays use awesome enclosures for their speakers that don't come close to recreating the effects heard from mounting speakers in a tin can. aka your door.

 

True but a lot of times you don't have that option. Started to say they may sound different in the truck. But it gives you an idea at least of what you like best.

polk audio makes some very nice quality componet speakers for under 300. I have the cheaper (db series) on a 300 watt amp with fully deadened doors and they sound like mini subs. So clear with the separate tweeter. I highly recommend something with a crossover and running the rca's through an equalizer. It makes a world of difference on sound quality being able to fine tune everything. What head unit did you say you were running?

 

kenwood dnx6190hd.... and a friend was refering me to focal, anybody had experience or know anything about them?

 

Focal is a fantastic brand and great sounding speaker. The KRX2 component set is the set I would run from them if I didn't like audison so much. I have a bias towards Hertz/Audison, I just really enjoy how they sound. It's hard for me to make recommendations without a budget haha, but since it sounds like you are just getting into car audio, I would recommend the Hertz HSK 165 component set. If you want even more midbass ther HSK 165XL component set has an even bigger woofer and a sightly larger tweeter.

 

thanks a lot for the info... im really not new to car audio i have an altima im just doing my bros taco for him so when he return from afghan he will have something nice and loud for him, but i just have no idea for speakers for trucks ya know. But what would you recommend from audison like i said budget is no problem! And do you think 1 TW5 will be plenty for the double cab?

 

Oh, I see. That's really nice of you to do. Well I run the thesis set from audison which is their top tier set, but they stopped making them temporarily due to the skyrocketing price of rare metals used in their production. So the only component set Audison is selling are the Voce set. Hertz top end line is the Mille set which are better than the Audison Voce set, so if budget was no option I would get the Hertz Mille set or the Focal KRX2, they are both directly comparable to each other. I've never heard the TW5 in person so I cant say for sure. I toyed around with the idea of shallow mount subs before I stepped up to full 10" subs. Im sure they do the best a shallow mount can do, but if your brother has an adept ear and can tell the difference between the bass lines of subwoofers, then their is no replacement for displacement IMHO. Well worth the space given up. BUT this is all subjective so that shallow mount may be enough for him. It's all your decision in the end. Also, be sure to buy authorized if you do. Go through a dealer!

Anytime buddy. That set is priced to be comparable to the Hertz HSK 165's i was telling you about earlier. I personally would go with the Hertz over those. I do not like tweeters constructed of aluminum because they tend to run on the harsh side. Soft textile dome tweeters are where its at for me.

 

Again, this is purely subjective, your brother may like the way they sound.

Depends, are you planning on running active? if so I would use the jl 900/5, that would take care of everything. If not running active, do you plan on upgrading the rear speakers? if so, then still the JL 900/5. Single amp solution that is tiny.

 

Oh, i forgot you have an amp already for the sub. Then all you would need if you were not planning on running active and only wanted to amp the front components would be a 2 channel amplifier. Any of the XD or HD units from JL would be fine as long as its > 100 wats per channel
