    Thanks for having me.

My 2006 4Runner is finally dying due to much off road abuse.

I no longer wish to go wheeling on purpose...life, kids, etc.

I need some help guys/gals...I'm seriously considering the new 4x4, 4 Cylinder and I'm nervous about the reliability.

I want to own it for at least 10 years; the kicker is I work from home and do not haul heavy equipment.

Actually, I've always liked the old Toyota Pickups with the 22RE motor.

The wife wants more kids in the next 5 years, so I don't want to get the V6.

    What do you all think?

Engine is solid but from what ive heard 4 cyl is a little underpowered for these size trucks. New ones might be better tho idk. Theres also different things you can do to add some HP if you find it is a little underpowered.

My first to Tacos were both 2.7's. I never wanted for any power. But I'm not a power-hungry person, either. If I had to replace my current truck with a new Taco I would buy the 2.7 without any thought.

Ok kewl. Im not that power hungry either i just didnt like the 4 cyl i had before but it was smaller than the 2.7. But yah the reliability of most toyota engines are top notch and above most others.

I'm a new guy here so take it for what it's worth. If you're just getting around town with very light loads the 2.7 will last forever but would suggest manual transmission as the new six speed constantly searches for a gear. I'm returning my 2016 SR with the AT and getting an SR5 with the V6. Only a few $$ more and same MPG. Wish someone had mentioned it to me......

    Thanks for the input guys/gals.
I'm not power hungry at all either. But, searching for gears sounds annoying.
I am partial to a manual transmission too. Decisions, decisions.

I was thinking about used too, but this will be our 4th Yota; we purchased the others new as well. More decisions. lol

I prefer manuals as well. Ive heard and read that you can get a good deal if you get last years model. Typically have super low miles but dealers are kind if trying to push em off the lot to make room for the new year vehicles. Get almost the same vehicle for a lot less, typically.
