need help, rounded bolt head!

    Bin those 12 point sockets.

    Use them only on loose stuff.

    12 points are best for 12pt bolts. Use it on square head, 6pt, and taps you might end up with more work, and cussing to do:rant:

    No pics, but they use them on Detroit 71 series truck engines for the starter. They're not very common.

    The thing is..... 12 point sockets are more common than 6 point sockets. They're perfectly fine to use on any bolt. The point is - like TRAP already mentioned - 12 point sockets are for standard usage. If/When you run into a situation where a 12 point starts to round off the edges and/or you can't remove a bolt with a 12 point, its time to switch to a 6 point.

    Same situation when working with brake lines...if you can't get a flare nut off with a standard wrench, its time to start using a flare wrench.

Nice thing was I got the truck for $4000
    I know alot of driveshafts also have 12 point bolts
