    Hi everyone,
I have a 1997 Yamaha Kodiak 400 also known as a YFM400. Last night the electric start stopped working. I have checked the voltage on the battery which is sitting around 12.6 volts. I checked to see how much it drops when you hit the start button and it drops to 12.4 I think or down to 6 volts. I can't remember the number. when you hit the start button you hear a click and the neutral light goes dim. What can I check to see where my problem might be? Is there a relay somewhere that involves the starting of the machine? what should my voltage be on this bike? Let me know what you guys think.
    Thanks
    Tim

more info to add. The battery sits at 12.6 and when you hit the button drops to 5 something and stays there til you turn off the key, then it jumps back up to 12.6. when you have the quad running it charges around 13.8 to 14.2. When you start playing with the throttle, the battery drops down to 8.28 til you let off and it will jump back up to its 13.8- 14.2. The neutral light flickers while all this is going on.
