Yeah that one way of looking at, i don't know if its the Macho Man thing in me or the redneck but im afraid if i don't get a truck i will not be happy, but i like the idea of the FJ being a little nicer/fancier than the taco, hell idk probably will just end up getting a smart car:turtleride:

I'm assuming you already completed the academy right? If you can afford payments in the event you don't pass the academy, FTO or probation then I would say go for it. If not, I would wait..... But, you gotta do what you gotta do. And I changed my mind, I thought you had a Taco originally. Go for the double cab taco. You won't Regret it but you will miss having a truck if you get an FJ.

Yeah the academy is over, and i just have a 91 4x4 Toyota Pickup, back when trucks where real trucks with vent windows and roll up side windows. lol I like the idea of a new truck, but i like the idea of road trips with my gear in the back of the fj dry with still room for four people idk what to do, i like them both

Get the Tacoma. if you want to sell at any time it will hold it's value the best. FJ's are ok for a little while, but you will always wish you had the taco.

If you're going to get a new vehicle - get the double cab Tacoma.

The utility of a truck can not be matched by the FJ. Sure you can put a hitch on the FJ and get a trailer if needed, but it certainly isn't as convenient as a pick up. The double cab will allow you to utilize the back seats and storage areas to keep stuff tucked away and dry. If you rent or own your residence - you need a vehicle to haul in (shrubs, trash, lumber, mulch, 55" flat screen TV ;), couch, etc) - the FJ just don't stack up well against the Tacoma for the majority of practical purposes.

The people carrying capacity between the two - Tacoma (double cab) to FJ - is the same. Seating 4-5 people comfortably is realistic in both. We've traveled on vacation with my brother and his wife in our double cab from PA to NC (8.5 hr ride) without any issues. The full size rear doors and seating makes entry and exit a breeze. The Tacoma's double cab rear seating area is more spacious than our Grand Cherokee Limited Edition. A buddy that I occasionally wheel with has an FJ, and I think it compares to our Grand in space and comfort. As mentioned, the people sitting in the rear have to do a little 'contorting' when entering and exiting. We considered the FJ until spending some time with the double cabbed Tacoma.

Offroad - well they are both pretty bad a$$. My buddy has a 3" lift and climbs just about anywhere my Wrangler goes. His FJ looks sweet with the lift and BFG MT's, but so does our Tacoma. :D

Just an FYI - The base model, auto, 4x4, V6, double cab will run ya in the lower $20K. You can always add an ARB locker down the road for less than you would have spent on the TRD Offroad ... Comparing new vehicle to new vehicle.

If we had to do it over again, our choice would be the same....2010 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab.

I hope this helps and congrats on the new position. I've been in EMS for over 20 years we have a mostly thankless profession that really requires a person to love what they do. I hope you'll find as much enjoyment in helping others as I've had. Stay Safe!!!

I don't think anybody who has told you to get the Taco has read your previous posts, because they obviously don't realize you'll still have a truck. Get an FJ, keep your '91. No point in having 2 trucks. Plus that FJ is legit, I've never seen one like that stock.

I did read the entire thread. I understand that there is a consideration of keeping the 91 truck. And still think buying a double cab Tacoma would be best.

There is a point in having 2 Toyota Tacomas, especially since he's been happy with the one he has and sees the benefit in having a four door vehicle. He wants the conveniences of new vehicles (power locks, windows), area keep items dry (back seat or capped bed) - And, well - With a new Tacoma he'll never be without a perfect ride!:D;)

Side Note: are u sure that FJ is a 4x? I thought TRD FJs only come in 2wd
