Yeah an Elite 1000 would work for a 4cyl build, they're harder to come by though, they've been discontinued for a little while

Get one that has a few more features than you need, so that you never have to worry about the ecu being the limiting factor.

There is a local guy selling one for $900 brand new in the box never installed, but I am skeptical that if it does not work ,I am going to be out of luck. Anyway to test these to make sure they are good?

You'd have to buy the AMP connectors and wire up the power and grounds to power it up outside a car. Unfortunately they don't do anything just connected to USB alone.

Probably not on the weekend but I bet if you get them and their pins from Digi key they can have them to you very soon. I don't have the part numbers on hand right now but when I get home I can send you links to them

I would give these guys a call and they'll set you straight. Its a lot of money but it also means no having to deal with wiring anything up. Plug and play then simply get it tuned. If you plan on having someone else tune it I would call around and see whos familiar with what ecu brands as that may effect how easily you can get it tuned.

The stuff that company uses is all off-the-shelf anyway might as well buy it separate and save yourself a good chunk of money.

The value is in the pnp harness or custom harness options. If you were gonna buy just an ecu sure go buy it somewhere else but not many places sell pnp harness for first gen tacomas.

Boomslang does, It's where the ones that come in that kit come from. Might as well just support them directly, they're a nice group of folks and they've taken a few notes from me about their harnesses for these trucks specifically so they're wired ideally for a Haltech.

I am familiar with boomslang. The only reason I mention them is when I was looking for my truck boomslang only offers there harnesses with a manual option. Versus snpspeed has auto options. Maybe it's just not listed on the boomslang website or are custom made by boomslang for snpspeed?

If you ask Boomslang to make it they will make it, they're very responsive to their email and they have the designs for all these other options. I just setup trans control for someone else with an older Boomslang passthrough (piggyback) auto harness from SNP. They'll also do oddball configurations too for people with say, an auto to manual swap that was done previously. I agree that you could buy all this stuff through a middleman and it might be a little easier legwork wise but I don't think it makes up the dollar value at all.

I sent boomslang 3 emails and have not tried calling them directly , but the 3RZFE w/ MANUAL TRANNY option is $600 and I am sure they make one for teh AUTOMATIC as well, just have not recieved any emails as of yet. The guy selling the Elite 1000 is asking for $800 without any harnesses at just the ECU and that yellow USB cable. I am also going to need a reputable shop to tune it. I am in New York, so finding reliable shops are almost non existing. When I emailed boonslang I asked them if I can use the Elite 1000 with their custom harness, I mean if this deals falls through , I will not have a choice but to pay the extra $$$ :(

I don't want to sound ignorant but, I am not removing my OEM ECU ? All this is a piggy back to the OEM ?

It's a piggyback to the OEM when you have an automatic because the stock computer needs to run the automatic transmission. The Haltech could run it but you have to get someone to custom wire it like that (it requires extra relay circuits), that's a service I offer for people. But you're a little bit far away from me :)

Have you looked into MegaSquirt ecu’s? I ran one when I had my turbo 3rz 5 or so years ago. It takes more setup but works awesome in the end. I used a piggyback tap in harness from urd to wire it in parallel with the stock ecu.
