Geek Squad does the actual installation. I would just buy the speakers and amps from Best Buy. Would you still recommend against doing that?

True, but I really don't want to mess something up and end up spending more money to have it fixed.. :/

Yeah, I see what you are saying, but it is cheaper and I'm on a tight budget. :/ All of these car audio places I have looked at all want up $500-700. I don't really have that kind of money to spend. All I want is louder, I don't want all these giant sub woofers and things.

What would a head unit actually do? Would it really make a difference?

I have a '11 TRD Sport that came with a decent head unit but was not loud at all. I replaced with a Kenwood Unit (set up for iPods) for 250 bucks and it made a world of difference! Stock speakers are decent, but the original head unit was not pushing them.

i have a feeling that those kinds of installers are the "handymen" of stereo systems. (example: plumbers. would you rather have a plumber who is his own boss with his own plumbing license? or would you rather hire a company who has 1 guy with a license who sits behind a desk extending his license to 10 guys without licenses and only hands on experience and one of those 10 guys coming to repair a pipe within a wall or under the house?) without the GeekSquad polo shirt and ID tag it's like hiring Jose to come install your stereo.

    IMO

Dude, I SO wish you were closer to me. I would help you pick out some stuff and bring over a six pack for an install afternoon. Can't someone inTX help this guy out and teach him some install techniques!?!?!?

Remove two screws, pop door panel, replace junk stock (bottom) with relatively inexpensive, yet immensely better speaker. (top)

Buddy I can more than likely install the speakers for ya. Go to anywhere else other than best buy and we can do the install. I mean my radio is bad and maybe my speakers are blown so I'll have to get involved in that field anyway.

Yes definatley. Did you read my earlier posts where i tried to lay out all your options and what results you should have. A aftermarket headunit paired with decent speakers will give you alot more volume and better sound compared to stock. Plus a aftermarket headunit just looks cool haha. You can get touchscreen, maybe in dash navigation if you willing to spend a little more.

In my opinion, someone in your situation (not obsessed with sound quality, and a begginer when it comes to car audio) should just go with a aftermarket headunit and some decent co-axial speakers. If your considering doing it yourself this is definatley the way you wanna go, and if you do it yourself you can add an amp later down the road if you get the car audio bug haha, adding a amp to the factory head unit would be alot harder than adding an amp to a aftermatket unit. If you really want to keep the stock headunit than yes add an amp for volume. A amp will get you more volume than a aftermarket headunit, and yes it will sound better if you turn it up very loud.

You should start a thread, title it need help installing stero with you zipcode or you town/city and state and see if anyone who has done it before can help you out. A headunit and speakers can easily be installed in less than an hour if you have done it before. Honestley you probably would be able to pull it off by yourself, crutchfield gives you directions. I would imagine installing speakers and a amp at bestbuy would be at least $80, a stereo store would probably be $100 just to install the amp. So take that money you save and by yourself some sweet gear!

Again this is just my opinion and most people on this site would probably agree with me but its your money and your truck so dont think that it would be stupid to use bestbuy for the install.

Wow! Nice truck bro! I need to buy an amp and speakers first. I really might try and do it myself to save money. My dad will be able to help me. Plus it will save money. What brand of speakers and amp would you recommend?

Purchase a new head unit first. You should be able to get something that will play CDs, Ipod, etc for around $150 bucks. Add in the install kit and wiring harness and you're at $200 bucks. I was in the same place you are. I figured I would do the head unit first (I had it already), then buy speakers later, and if needed, an amp or two. Two years later, I still haven't felt the need for anything beyond the head unit. It's louder, just as clear as it was before, and the bass response improved at higher volume levels.
