    ^Thanks man!

However, thanks to some searching and Monkey and others. I've remedied the issue as all the bolts were loose. Some very loose. Shocking. . . LOL.

Nothing a 12mm socket and 2 minutes couldn't resolve. Then cleaned it up with some brake cleaner and checked the oil level.

I'll check on it from time to time to see if it leaks but I'm confident that was it.

Thanks guys! Check your BOLTS! :D

noticed mine was leaking after lucerne once when I was refueling, the bolts were seriously hand loose. Tightened them up on the spot, checked the level and it was still full :notsure: glad you caught this early

im sure everyone above me cleared it, but its a paper seal which sucks. gotta pull the axles, then take those nuts, drop the r/p and clean the surface. rebuild and use rtv sealant. never leak again.

ninja edit, glad youve gotten this fixed! it will one day not be the simple. maybe consider using loctite, and maybe some new nuts.

    ^Thanks guys,

For now it seems good. However like some of you guys have said. It might be the Pinion Seal and I will be checking for leaks every other day for a few weeks to see its status.

If the prevailing torque is good there is no reason to change the nuts. For piece of mind blue loctite and proper torque is sufficient.

    Tacoma World,

This thread saved me $1000 from the stealership that quoted me to changed seals for my differential. Toyota said that it would be a 7 hour job and they would have to take everything apart just to replace the seals. This was the exact problem that I was having and it turned out that some of my bolts were loose enough to cause the oil to leak. Exactly how the pictures posted on this thread. Don't get jacked and tighten those bolts!

Thank you TW. You saved me AGAIN!

I have a 2012 with 45k and noticed mine leaking this morning. Luckily I am still under warranty and the stealership told me that it was a pinion seal but then they said they were missing a bolt so....Im not sure if it was loose and came out or if they lost it.
