    Hey TW,
well i recently inherited an audio system(kicker l7, box, 2 amps, and a capacitor). Im no guru at car audio but i know enough to get radios and systems hooked up. however ive never worked with this capacitor

I know there is a negative and positive, that part is simple. However this one has a third bolt. This is where i am confused. If someone could help it'd be much appreciated.

Anyways heres the picture. Its the small Philips screw up top.

i doubt you will need it, hook it up without and then see if you actually need it.

I think he means you don't need the third screw. I agree. Hook the positive and negative to the power that feeds the amp. Mount the cap as close as you can to the amp with the heaviest and shortest wire that you can use.

Some caps require you to ground the 3rd wire for the display to work. What is the make/model of the cap?

Alright, so im stuck again. I hooked it all up and the cap doesnt turn on. So i talked to a car audio store and they said it can be a 2nd ground or a remote wire turn on. What do you guys think

Hmm Idk then. Everybody swears that capacitors don't work and to just get an extra battery instead. Maybe try to sell it and get a battery instead. There's no third wire on there that's for sure. But if money's tight then just use that. If it works. LOL. Try running a small wire from that third screw to your amps remote turn on.

Yeah i just read up on it.
Q: My cap has a third terminal. What's that for?
A: Some caps come with a built-in meter that displays the voltage. If a meter were to stay on constantly, it could drain the car's battery. So caps with meters often have a remote turn-on lead connection, just like car amplifiers, so the meter turns off with the system. A thin, 16-ga. or so, wire should run from the cap's turn-on connection to the amplifier's remote turn-on terminal, or any other switched 12 volt power source

And it was free so why not use it right :D

Hmmm "capacitors dont work"????? C'mon its basic theory of electronics. A capacitor holds a charge of whatever size it is intended for, and releases that charge in a vary rapid way as to eliminate that "spike" from coming from your battery. Basically saves your battery and doesn't shorten the life span of it. This is all in layman's terms. If you want a more detailed description do some research on it.

Do some research man before making UN-informed comments and "UN-educating" people seeking serious information.

Like "Hey you dont need those windshield wipers, they dont work"??
