    Most do this since it's easier to reverse the process if you take the top off.

    Remove two 10mm bolts to remove taillight assembly. Pull straight rearward to reomve taillight. then make following connections

    Green/red = brake light
    green (right next to it) - works when parking lightsare on = dome light wire (you would have to go to battery for dome light on anytime make sure you use a fuse within a foot of the battery)
    white/black = ground

    There is a gap between the bedcaps and the bed (rear metal upright) large enough for 3 wires to fit. You can fish them out from inside the tailght.

    For quick disconnect capabilities you will always have a connector there (so it will as clean as your imagination its just wires) . If you don't have a "quick disconnect just get a 4flat trailor harness loop and use it (they come in 48'' lengths).

    I hope this helped.

    So i am reviving this thread because i am a wiring noob and couldnt find any more info on this.

    I need to wire my 3rd brake light on my LEER cap i bought used. if you look in the picture, the caps wiring is the top right , one red, one black wire. I assume red is positive and the black negative or ground?

    And below that is the wires that control the left rear lights. There is a red, white , green, blue, and blue with black stripe. What color is what and which ones do i connect to?

    I also envision myself buying the strip lights that go under the tailgate, i saw ones that are red for breaks and signals, and then white for back up lights. so i want to know which wires i need to splice into as well.

    For a 2007:
    Red/White: Backup
    Green: Tail
    Blue: Brake
    Blue/Black: Left Turn
    White/Black: Ground

    Connect Leer red to Toyota blue.
    Connect Leer black to Toyota white/black.

    It took way too long to find something like this. The color of the wires seems to be at least what I couldn't find. Save me from testing them.

    I hooked up my 3rd brake light today on my Bestop and I too had problems with the wiring color code ... I found that the above listed color code for the 2007 is the same for my 2013 .... Also a problem was that the light provided byBestop had a white,black,& a brown wire .... WaWaWhaaat ?After some searching around and finding no posts on this type Chinese light , I called Bestop .... They didn't even know !
    The way I solved it was to connect the wires to a 9 volt battery .... The little square one .... You know
    I found that
    Black = Negative
    White= Positive - - - Steady Full Brake Light
    Brown = Positive - - - Scrolling Brake Light

    If you want a scrolling brake light use brown& black
    If you want a steady plain ol brake light (like me) use the white and black

    I spliced into the White/Black on the tail light assembly for the negative (black)

    Spliced into the Green/Red for the Positive (I used the white ) from the third brake light .... Use brown if want the Scrolling affect

    It worked just fine .... And now I'm Happy Happy Happy !
