I'm having the strangest problem with my 97 Tacoma. The truck will turn over but won't start and when you turn the key to the off position the door chime works normal BUT when you take the key out the door chime continues and chimes even faster and the temp gauge goes to hot. I have to disconnect the battery cables to get the door chime to stop. Any ideas on what it could be? I'm totally stumped. Thanks in advance!

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
Check your battery ground going to the body, if that's good, move onto other ground unless you have an aftermarket alarm/remote start. if theres an aftermarket alarm or remote start the brain box could be malfunctioning. But definitely a weird problem you have there, cant say I've seen one like that.

maybe a short somewhere? i would start pulling one fuse at a time to see if the problem stops when one of the fuses is out. this could at least identify the circuit, which would then allow you to then hone in on the exact problem.

yep, it's definitely an electrical problem. As others suggested, check your grounds and your fuses.

Also, maybe it is the battery itself. Failing batteries are known to sometimes make our trucks go crazy...

Thanks to all! I tried the easiest first and put a new ground cable on and grounded it to the body and it started right up and no weird beeping! Just drove it up the road and it did fine. Fingers crossed! Thanks again and hopefully it is fixed.
