Hi TW - I'm pretty close to losing my mind, and looking for some help. I just installed the Pop and Lock for my tacoma. I have a 2008 Access cab (2 door), and was told by the tech department that I need to locate the "Blue/Black" wire and "Blue/Red" wire in the kick panel. I've been working on this for like 3 days off/on as a beginner trying to figure it out. I just picked up a multimeter today, and checked the terminals of these two wires which I assumed were the right ones. They both lead to/from, through the boot in the side of the truck, leading to the door. This is why I thought I should be splicing into them....which I did. However, when I attempted to lock/unlock the truck, there was no power to the tailgate.

I'm just pretty frustrated at this point after putting in all this work. The problem is I have a hard time reading the electric wiring manuals online.

Is anyone able to guide me along this path to finding the door lock/unlock wires? I just need to know which pin set, area to be looking. It's overwhelming at this time. Like, should I be checking the door locking abilities with the key in the ignition? Also, I did already splice these two wires - Can I simply detach my attached blue and green wires without any problems to the wires that I've already spliced?

    Thanks in advance guys!

Blue/Red and Blue/Black look to be the right colors according to my diagram.
Depending on what button you push, there will either be 12v or Ground on EACH wire.
Both wires are powered by the ECM, the ECM determines what wire is + or -.

I’ll try to get you better pics with diagrams later. The drivers side goes through 2 different connectors.
Which makes explaining where the wires are “harder”.
(Because it is independent from the rest of the locks)

And yes, you should be able to just remove the splice connector. Tape up the are where the connector pierced the wire.

Also, Those connectors are NOTORIOUS for making bad connections and causing future problems. I’d be sure you actually have a connection first.

I’m curious, when tapping in there do you need to press the unlock button 2x on the key FOB to unlock the tail gate? I believe that connection is for the passenger and rear doors. ( I would prefer it this way myself)

And I see you used T-taps. Those are better. At least you can test the connection easily.

Cool thanks for all the information guys. I'll make some changes - I know these are the wires since I confirmed them with the multimeter so I'll just make some changes and use T-Taps, and try the passenger side. Much appreciated!

Yes, I installed the PopNLock this way as well. Twice on the remote to unlock all the doors and the tailgate. The reasoning is that the tailgate actuator wont get used all the time and wear out faster.

Also might want to check out this thread. Good info on how to make a manual release incase the actuator does fail. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...tall-2012-tacoma.214928/page-25#post-18293856

Good advice! Man, this platform is great. I just hopped on a couple months ago and have already saved hundreds in doing my own work since everything else has already been explained/addressed. I don't know how you found this thread from like 10 years ago but I just read through it. Thanks again everyone!

OP, since you have an access cab, the connector to the rear doors locks is at the front passenger kick panel. The slots in the connector are vacant and can be "populated" with the missing terminals crimped to the pop & lock wires.

there is also a 20 amp circuit to IL2 from the power window.

Picking up a little bit of an older thread here. Just found myself doing the same thing, also on an access cab. Tapped the same wires on the driver's side, and no luck. Passenger side it is. Did you just run the wires under/behind the dash to the passenger side kick panel, or re-do everything tailgate to cab on the passenger side?

You have any luck? I'm similarly stuck on an '08 access cab. Trouble identifying which wires to tap into.

I wired it into the passenger side of the truck, works great now. Ran the wiring along the frame, and there's a perfectly placed rubber grommet under the passenger seat. Once you pop the passenger side kick panel, just find the blue and black and blue and pink wires to tap.
