So just to update, in case any other AR-15 build noobs look at this thread- my total outlay for this is as follows:

    BCM Upper Receiver - $399
    LMT Bolt Carrier Group- $130
    BCM Charging Handle- $23
    Punisher Lower w/color-$136
    (Spike's Tactical)
    FFL Transfer Fee- $30
    Magpul CTR Stock kit- $80
    Magpul Handguard- $30
    Lower Parts Kit- $53
    Magpul Flip-up Sight- $38
    Angled Fore Grip- $34
    Magpul P-Mags (5)- $70
    600 rounds of ammo- $230
    ^(Not Wolf or Bear)

    Total= $1,253!!!

If you take away the $300 for ammo and mags, thats $953- about what a Bushmaster or DPMS costs at the gun store here. I'd say I got a decent deal :D

Oh yeah I've embarked on about the same journey as yours. Let me know what you think of that BCM upper. I am ordering one either the M4 or mid length 16in. upper.

Crap I just realised my BCM upper I ordered does not come with the charging handle and BCG.
I will be getting a complete lower locally so that will be good.
When I install the BCG is there any special tools or guages needed to set headspace?
Is that best left to a smith?
Thanks for the list being a beginner AR guy (swore I never would  ) I have never paid much attn. to them.
Now I will end up with two when I get done.
Oh well I could be blowing the bucks on my truck instead!

As long as you are putting a new (quality) BCG in a new upper, especially of BCM quality, you are good to go; no head space worries.

Will do. I went with the M4 upper carbine length.

I should have the upper and the stock and stuff by friday, but I havent gotten a delivery date yet for the lower. Spike's website indicated it might be 2-3 weeks before the lower ships, so it might be a month or so before its together and I can put some rounds through it.

    About Palmetto State Armory:

So i ordered many of the components for my AR build from PSA, and they arrived yesterday(thursday). Not among those items was the magpul fore-grip that I ordered.

I called PSA this morning(friday) at 10am and spoke to "Sam". He apologized profusely for the error and stated that it wasnt in stock when they shipped everything. He said he usually calls people to inform them when this happens, but he forgot. After apologing again, he informed me he'd get me one when he got them in stock- and if they didnt get them in soon he'd let me know and help me rectify the situation some how. Fast forward to 4:30 today, I get home and there is a package at my door.

PSA got my grip to me from Columbia, SC to Fort Lauderdale, FL in 6.5 hours! May not be that incredible, but sure isnt cheap either. And they did this so as not to piss off a customer.

I am going to call PSA tomorrow and tell Sam that his efforts have ensured that PSA will be the recipient of all my future firemarms purchases. :)

So where is the savings here? You have a decent upper with the Bravo unit but it doesn't have a chrome bore or chamber. The lower parts group may or may not have the same quality components that is in a Bushmaster or DPMS. And you sill have to put it together. Personally, I'd rather that someone else does the assembly.

Go look at the specs on a bcm rifle and then go look at the specs on a dpms or bushy and come back and let me know what u find. If you would rather just buy a bushy or dpms then there you probably don't care about mil spec parts or quality control when it comes to parts. Plus it's just more fun to build one rather than buy one :)

oh and let me quote Bravo company here.

I dont know where you got that it doesnt have a chrome bore or chamber but it says it right on any of their uppers pages
    http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-M4-16-Upper-Receiver-Group-p/bcm-urg-m4-16.htm

    Carry on

this is what you want to look for when buying a rifle. If they claim that it is mil spec but does not meet these standards then it is not

Yeah all Bravo company product in my opinion are great for the money. I agree with zombierunner the QC is suppose to be one of the highest. Plus they give money to the wounded warrior project which my base is involved with. Thats another inccentive to buy from them but to each their own.

Guess I'm just a dweeb. My pre-ban Bushy E2S-A2 has been shooting real well for years without any trouble of any kind as long as it's bolt group is kept clean.
