So I’m trying to put my badges back on my truck after taking them off a week ago. Before taking them off they had started bending/peeling away but they would still stick on to the truck, but now they will not stay stuck onto the door. I have a black overlay on them and I’m using the 3m automotive badging tape but they will not stay on. They are bent to the point where they will not keep contact with the panel so when I leave it to set it peels up and drops off the truck.

I have no idea what to do so any help is greatly appreciated.

Take them back off and get a blower dryer and on the high setting warm them up and bend them back take your time use something flat to measure your progress. Also get some commercial grade 3m.

I'd start fresh. Take them off and put on a flat surface maybe in the sun or very low oven. When they cool they should stay flat. Then restock with new tape

Or just take them all off for a clean look.

I lived the naked life for a week, I prefer my badges. Could I get away with a heat gun or would that heat everything too fast?

Heat gun will work just don’t put right on top of them. Hold far enough away so they just get warm enough to relax back to flat. Then you can put like a book or something on them to keep them flat while they cool.

I'm just saying, some things are worth working with, and some things are better left to spend one's time elsewhere:

Well it appears I’ll be doing what you suggested. I accidentally applied too much heat and the overlay pulled up and away from the emblem. That’s a shame, these overlays were super expensive for what they are. I’ll go ahead and search eBay for some black 2nd gen badges.

This seems like a pretty cool idea, but I can’t seem to find any for 2nd gens with the more rounded off letters, just the more geometric design of the 3rd gens.

Thank you to everyone who tried to help me. I went ahead and decided to ditch the badges so I ordered a pack of mirrored American flag decals off of Amazon to cover up the empty space on my door that once held badges.

For anyone who may find this post in the future there are other options for badges.

These are a set of black badges off of eBay.

These are decals that replace the badges, they are for a 3rd gen so the font is different from the 2nd gen badges.

These are the decals I ordered.

Delete them. Everyone knows it’s a Tacoma including you.
don’t need to bastardize metal by gluing cheap tacky plastic onto it
