Need help with door latch

    Hey guys hopefully someone can give me some insight as my door is torn apart and it's my DD. I have a '96 tacoma with power door locks, no alarm, no keyless entry. The exterior handle will not open the door but the interior one will. I've replaced the ext handle, didn't help. Next, I removed the latch mechanism, which seemed to have a lot of play, but I have no real frame of reference on how it should work. Everything on the mechanism seems to work including the linkage that connects to the ext handle. That's all the info I have. Thx
