Hey everyone, so I brought my truck in last weekend for a transmission/solenoid issue and an oil leak and I just got the invoice for it and needless to say it’s not looking good boys. So they cleared the transmission code and did a transmission fluid replacement and supposedly the transmission is working fine now. However, they found the source of the oil leak and they recommend to reseal the front timing cover ($3,254). They said they needed to lift the whole engine to do so. Also they recommend replace drive belt and all idler pilots and tensioner with pulley ($1,083). Look I’m a young guy freshly in the military and I don’t have thousands of dollars to replace and fix everything on this truck. The whole repair was was over 8k and that’s simply too much money for me. I love the truck but I just need her to run for another year or so. If I could have some help from y’all with what you guys recommend I could do to cut down on those repairs it would be greatly appreciated or if you guys think I could get some of these repairs for cheaper or just straight up do them myself they would be very helpful. Thank you guys

Your mistake was taking it to a Toyota dealer. Before you do anything else find 2 independent quality repair shops and get their opinion and estimates. Try to find shops that specializes mostly in Toyotas. Let us know what happens and we can go from there. Dealers are usually way way more expensive than other shops and dealers tend to replace parts and do work that isn’t necessary.
