Need help with lower stock bushings for 5100 Bilsteins (front)

Hi all:

I replaced the rear factory leafs with Alcan Leafs (review coming soon) and OME greasable shackles. The front received a rebuilt rack from the "Rack Doctor) and new tie rods.

The problem: I need to raise the front as even though I asked for no lift leafs, the have lifted the rear a good 2.5 inches.

The front shocks, which were installed 4 years ago, have gotten a lot snow due to be daily driven during snow weather and skiing. As such on of the shock bolts needs to be cut off to be removed from the coilover (spring).

Downsouth Motors (where I originally bought the shocks) says that the bushings are vulcanized unto the shock, and that as such I'll need to replace the shocks. Downsouth website shows Toyota part # 90948-01056 and 90948-01057 as bushings needed to be installed with the 5100 series.

Can anyone shed any light as to what I need?

 

I would trust what DSM is telling you to be correct. I really doubt you can just replace that billie shock bushing.

You're referring to the top bushing right?

OP, I was referring to the bottom bolt and bushing.

 

Problem is, verbally they say I need new shocks, while their site shows a part number for bushings. So which way I'm supposed to go?

Make certain from DSM that they will fit the lower mount on your RCD 5100s. They may not.

The shock we (TW) refer to as 5100s is a shock made by bilstien for a company call Race Car Dynamics. These shocks are spec'd by RCD, and Bilstien builds them. Bilstien does not sell these, only RCD does. In fact, Bilstien does not sell a comparable, adjustable front shock for Tacomas.

One of the RCD specs is a bottom bushing that is bonded to its mount.

Yes, there are bushings available for Bilstien shocks. Several different sizes in fact to fit other applications, The rear Tacoma posts for example. The bushing you see listed on DSM site are for Bilstien shocks. For their 5125 series shocks for sure and maybe others.
