Hello everyone! I'm the thrilled owner of a lime-colored 2022 Tacoma Pro. While I'm head over heels in love with it, I'm eager to make it even more 'me'. The challenge I face is that I'm not exactly tech-inclined, and to top it off, there aren't local businesses around to lend a hand. So, I'm turning to this forum in hopes of finding some valuable advice.

My vision for my Tacoma is to outfit it with an impressive bumper, an LED-equipped roof rack, and a bed rack that can support a camping tent. My usage of this vehicle is fairly mixed - it's my daily driver, my companion on light road trips and camping adventures, and it's also tasked with towing my boat. On top of this, I occasionally take it on hunting and fishing trips. The aesthetic I'm aiming for is a combination of style and ruggedness - cool, yet beastly.

To bring this vision to life, I've budgeted around $3000 for the bed and roof rack + bumper, and winch. I would be immensely grateful if you could point me in the right direction in terms of where to start this customization journey. Thank you in advance.

P.S looking for a roof tent as phase two of the upgrade

Welcome to TW and congrats on the new truck :) If it were me before I started spending that budget I would drive it for a while, take it on some of those road and camping trips, then see what you really want/need. Otherwise it could get very expensive to buy something then swap it out a year later because it didn't meet your expectations. Things like a bed mat, all weather floor mats, etc. I can understand getting right away. Wait on the big ticket items, get some miles under your belt, and do some research to see what's out there and will best suit your needs...once you determine what they are. But that's just me :)

:amen: ^^^ You will find all kinds of things that you "need" on TWorld, it is an informative, but dangerous budget-crushing beast. I have first-hand knowledge of this as I bought my Tacoma in 2021 and upon finding TW got somewhat caught up in the seemingly endless modification and spending possibilities. Luckily I still have and am using most of the mods I chose, but there are a few others that have since been replaced/removed. Honestly, the best non-aesthetic mod that I use every day is a tune. It wasn't the first thing I did but turned out to be the one that makes me most happy. Congrats on the new Tacoma and welcome to the crazy, opinionated, expensive, yet wonderful site that is TW.

Could probably blow the entire $3k on the RTT alone.

I mean budget is not really the issue, I do not know even know how much things are costing, and this is why I need the help, I am looking for a turn-key operation. I can handle the installation locally here but I am not sure where to start.

The 3k budget was for the bed and rooftops. Tent is phase two

Welcome to the forum :hattip: & congratulations on the new truck.

    A few suggestions:
    1) Drive it for a while before you spend any money.

    2) Read. At the top right of every page is the search box, type in what you are interested in and read what other folks have done. You can learn what are the better brands and what the problems were before you spend any money.

There are thousands of members here with lots of experience both good & bad, use that knowledge so you can do it right the first time.

    3) Watch the BST section and FB Marketplace, once you know what the better brands are you can catch some good deals.

    4) The Factory bed mat is worth the money.

For a Daily Driver, I'd suggest starting to use the Truck as is and explore your needs in the process. Then decide what to spend 'smart' money on...

There is nothing wrong with using a ground tent in the meantime... I've done RTTs - great for extended trips, but for one offs in a DD it is silly to carry the thing permanently for the commute...

I'd hate to lug one of those around every day. I do see people do it. They think they are cool - but it is pretty silly when you know they have not used it in more than a year... sigh...

Do you want a winch on a daily driver?

I have had bed rugs lately and have loved them. The do hold onto dirt, blades of grass and all things fuzzy, but it cleaned well and is easy on the knees when climbing in. Would you recommend a factory mat over a bed rug?

Have you camped in an RTT before? Have you camped in alternatives, like ground tents, pop up hub tents (Gazelle), or even hammocks? Why do you want an RTT? RTTs are *not* the "best" camping method, especially if you're just starting out. Believe me, I have one. It has many pros and many cons. For me, the pros *barely* beat out the cons. But everyone is different.

Throw together a basic camping kit, if you don't already have one, and just take it out for an overnight weekend at a local state park or something low-risk. You'll figure out what you're missing. You don't need to instantly build a Content Creator level rig straight away. You're better off using that 3k for new tires and basic recovery gear first.

The good news is the Pro suspension is awesome and fit's 33s well and will last a long time for moderate wheeling. I'm crossing 55k miles over 3 years on mine and only looking to upgrade due to how much of that overland bs I've loaded on it.

As many have said, the budget will hamper you slightly but not entirely. The RTT, bumper, winch and other items will add weight which will drop vehicle ride height. Youre on a pro suspension so thats a better start but it wont be super happy with 5-700lbs added to it necessarily long term. If you havent used an RTT they range from a PITA to put up to the flip of a latch and they self deploy. They also range from $1000 to $7500 so there is quite a range of accessories, creature comforts, safety, amenities and other features that set them apart from one another.

We are one of the largest overland and offroad accessories shop online and have over 100yrs of combined offroad experience on our support team, give me a shout if you need help or have any questions! We can happily get you set you up and get you outfitted within your budget or see how we can stretch the budget or prioritize items, www.offroadalliance.com. The TRDP has suspension and is good for 33s so you dont need to worry down there other than weight added, which some preload collars and an AAL can correct.

Don't be discouraged; $3k is plenty budget to reach your phase 1 goal. Now, install/labor, thats a different story, but you could easily accomplish what you want with 3k if you did the work yourself, which is definitely doable with simple hand tools. Just because others spent $3k on a bumper/winch alone doesn't mean you have to. Of course having any budget limits your options, but I think if you're realistic about your goals, you can meet that 3k budget. My recommendations would be start with something like this and adjust accordingly (assuming you don't truly need the most high clearance bumper/most reliable winch out there):

    Bumper: Amazon/Ebay/SSO "slimline type" bumper - $5-800
Winch: HF Badland or Smittybilt X20 10k winch - $650ish
Roof rack: Martin (prinsu knockoff) - $650ish
LED light bar: Amazon/Ebay 40" (you won't use it and they all suck anyways) - $70-100
Bed rack: RCI mid height - $750ish

Obviously you can shop around and find things you like better in similar ranges, adjusting other parts accordingly, but thats a starting place at least, and shows you can do what you're wanting to do with this budget. Best bet will be finding everything except the winch used honestly. You can get much better parts that way. Something else you should consider though is suspension upgrades. With all this added weight, and especially after adding RTT down the road, you're gonna need some help with the sagging.

    Yeah.
Below is a pic of my 2018 Pro. My build seems similar to what you are looking for minus the roof rack for lights (mine is just an OEM rack that holds an awning). Your budget is a bit low, but you mention that is not an issue.

Bumper - ~$2,000 (Backwoods Adventure Mods hybrid, very light)
Winch - ~$600+ (A quality Warn winch with synthetic line will run more)
    Bed Rack - ~$1200 - $1500 (I have a CBI Overland in aluminum)
Roof Rack - $850 (assuming you'd go with Prinsu)

I didn't want to mess with suspension upgrades, so I went with the lightest stuff possible, which does drive the price a bit higher (but less than also upgrading the suspension). I added sliders and a rear high-clearance bumper as well.
