Don't spend $. Seriously. Nothing you've outlined in the post demands extra gear. I've covered quite a few trails and enjoyed camping with stock trucks despite seeing everyone else deck out their cars. As pointed above, a bed mat is a good accessory to have - your gear won't slide - the rest is meh. Mostly "geared up" trucks I've seen are too shiny new; look flex and that's about it. I'd keep the $3K.

Man most of you guys are boring, don't buy anything, the economy would be in the shitter if it was left to you guys.
I'm no 3rd gen guy but I say go for it! Get whatever you like, sleeping in the mud when you drove there is lame. RTTs are comfy, I'd just get a mid height rack to keep it out of the wind. And aluminum for the winch mount or bumper.

The factory bed mat is heavy rubber, weatherproof and almost indestructible in any kind of normal use. It will easily sweep or pressure wash clean.

The big advantage is nothing will slide on it, the composite bed alone is quite slippery.
I have seen bed rugs when using a shell but never on an open bed.
